A BIT fast 馃檮 I obviously am too new to this mechanical game to consider 45 sec per day a tidy bit fast

Not especially, no, but I am not aware of any good watchmakers near me or anybody trusted I could send it off to. I did get quotes from a couple of places but they were more expensive and I didn't want to send off to some unknown quantity. Would love to find a trusted watchmaker locally. I would like to put my Rolex Explorer in for service next.

And no specific issues - it was running a bit fast (like +45 secs per day) and am guessing it had never had a service in it's life (since 1996ish). At least TAG will send it back with a warranty and they have agreed only to clean the case, no polishing.

Price-wise, I figured the service cost of 拢410 was actually quite reasonable for a chronograph. As I say, I'd been quoted more elsewhere.
Curious whether it will come back as requested (not polished), not saying I know of any case they did/didn't follow instructions.

Did they recommend replacement of hands and/or crown?

Crown, yes. Hands, no.

It didn't need a polishing to be honest. Case is in near mint condition.

I don't consider it too bad for a watch that hasn't had a service in 25 years!

Thats true I suppose. Honestly for me, precision is not something I care about. My mechanicals usually run out of power between wears so I wind and set them most occasions either way.

Agree. I don't usually wear a watch for more than a few days at a time, so provided it's roughly showing the right minute, that's good enough for me.

I do have a horror story about polishing, the brother of a colleague sent his IWC in for service, it came back polished including the parts which were originally brushed (no pictures so can't show it).::facepalm1::

He made a fuss but after a complimentary croc strap didn't take a stand in a more aggressive way.

Was it sent to IWC HQ or some local place??

If I recall correctly AD sent it to IWC, I have to admit it's hard to believe an IWC service center wouldn't know what the original finishing is.

If the brother would have pressed the AD, maybe it turned out it happened locally.

They must have put the work experience teenager in charge of both polishing and quality control that day. 馃う

Sounds terrible. Isnt AP infamous for horrible polishing work during service as well?

For sure that wouldn't be something I'm going to be fine with. I got a complimentary strap and deployant clasp for the hassle with the date change issue the last time I got it back but a full polished watch with the brushing gone is a whole another thing.

Did you try demagnetizing it? Could be that, at that kind of rate. But if it had never been serviced, definitely not a bad idea to get that done just in case!

Another watch buddy of mine sent in a Breitling just a couple months ago, and they did the same thing. Polished the hell out of it and essentially ruined the case :/ Unfortunately, unless your watch is a recent model and under warranty, factory service is not always a great idea. Even at higher price points, one has to do their homework. Sad but true

No, I didn't, but it was definitely due a service. That watch has always run slightly fast.

I didn't mind TH polishing my 20+ year old Kirium (likely not going to be a vintage piece) and the WG Carrera turned out great.

There are options in UK. Not that many I would trust to be fair, but at least some. (And not at 拢410 either!) PM me next time if you're interested. 馃憤

I have to say, my CG1110 bracelet came back from TH looking absolutely bloody fantastic!

And my WN1112 bezel came back still a bit scratched but better than when it went in, so that shows they polished it within reason.

3-hander service should be around 120-150 euro. Chronograph service 200-250 euro. I had to look long and hard for the latter and don鈥檛 have a direct way in.
