·TAG Heuer boutique in Sheffield have F1 in black and red, also the new glassboxes...
OMG someone else has one! This is the watch that got me into collecting. How is yours looking a decade in? I have a bit of polishing on some edges, but no real damage.
Also yes, agree about pricing (as in posted up there somewhere ^^), but also note that I paid about 47% rrp for mine in an outlet, and these hung around for a long time, so maybe $4.5k was reaching back then?
I believe CBZ2084 (Yellow), CBZ2085 (Red), and CBZ2086 (Blue) are all DLC Titanium. All priced the same at $4900.
Although there are inconsistencies of the descriptions on TAG's website. Only the Yellow's case is described as DLC Titanium. The Blue & Red's case description says Titanium.
But if you scroll down the webpage for each watch, the Blue does say DLC Titanium, while the Red description says "sandblasted", which has got to be a webpage mistake.
My feeling is that many are complaining about the price because these are named "Formula 1".
We don't hear this kind of moaning and groaning about the more expensive Cal 16 Carrera.
Aside from the Carrera name or one's subjective taste in looks, tell me how this stainless steel $5650 watch (with the same movement) is a better buy than the $4700 Titanium F1?
Yes, one of my first aquireances (sp?) about 2014 or 15. I think I paid about half at a GM. It did get a sticky pusher within a year so the GM "fixed" it for me. Here's what it's doing now:
I took it diving a couple years ago just to get an underwater shot of it (shown above) and noticed it fog up upon surfacing. Not knowing how bad it was, I got the back off with a bracelet pin and hammer. Once open, I didn't see any sign of water, but with salt water ingress, I wasn't taking any chances. It's currently apart on my bench waiting it's turn in line. Surprisingly, the movement runs but the reverser has frozen (helecoptering). I have the parts needed but before I service it, I need to figure out where it leaked. I'm guessing the pushers.
This revealed nothing:
That's why you'll hear me complain about wet testers.
More as it develops.

I really like the design of these new Formula 1s, which are totally new and full of personality 👍🏼. And this one, because of the contrast between the grey case and the black bezel, crown, and pushers is my favourite:
But I don’t like the price of this new range, which in some way betrays the philosophy of the original Formula 1… I think that a quartz (or solar) version with a steel case, priced at around €2000-2200 like the current quartz Formula 1 models (CAZ101…), would have been more faithful to the original concept.
Yes, price is comparable to other automatic chronographs with titanium cases and similar/same movement, but it wasn’t necessary for the Formula 1 -the entry level model of the brand- to be automatic and made of titanium… for that and for high prices (and also linked to car racing) there is already the Carrera range.
Sorry if I'm being incredibly thick (I can just about change a battery and no more!) but why am I looking at your dial & movement sitting in a glass of..... water? 🤔
Not at all. The tap water dilutes any salt in the movement. After an hour in the glass, I spent another hour waving a hair dryer over it, drying it without warming it up too much.
When I first noticed it, my thought was "I can replace the movement for $500 so don't sweat it, but I can't replace the dial or hands for likely any price. How do I save them?" Hence the soak.
Turns out that likely only a tiny amount of salt water penetrated, maybe ten milligrams (a gram would fill the case). That which got in evaporated and then any condensation would have been fresh. So the actual salt didn't make it any farther than the pusher socket.
The movement still runs but is now sitting in a parts dish, waiting for a service and a fresh reverser. Most recently, I've been replacing a movement in a Ladies Aquaracer quartz (WAYsomething). Got a new movement (gold and all) from Perrin for $35 but the crown doesn't fit a standard Aquaracer crown gasket so I'm a bit flummoxed. That particular watch got enough salt water to creep up the stem and into the keyless and motion works. I had to alum the stem out of the crown.
Okay, now I'm really confused. I thought water was death to watch movements.... I mean yes I see that you dried it, but.... even so. How can you be sure it's totally dry?
I am very interested to see if the new 3 hander watches carry the same case design aesthetics but at 38mm - if so I am very excited to see the releases 👍👍👍
I think many of us are expecting the new retro inspired 3 handers to look similar to the OG & KITH F1s, upscaled to 38mm size.
But what if you're right and they use the same case style? I tried to imagine what a hybrid retro style & modern case might look like. Yay or Nay?
(Excuse my poor photoshop skills, I'm too lazy to download a proper image editing tool.)
