This one seems very popular, which surprises me a little bit. There's a lot going on here...
In person it has a really nice dial effect with the checkered flag pattern and the bezel. Stands out a bit more even with all the bells and whistles lol

Gentlemen, just want to say I've enjoyed this thread. I have no horse in the race, as neo-vintage is my jam.

However, between the KITH release last year, this interesting Formula 1 reboot design, and a future retro rumored release, my opinion is that the future of the new Formula 1 is in good shape.

I really mostly probably usually only kinda sorta care about design elements, and think this new release is great aesthetically.

Here's a great live shot from Hodinkee Japan.

I'm quite happy to see TAG Heuer doing something very different. The case design is unlike anything we've seen before in TAG's line up.

Also on the 1981 Ferrari 126C
Longines used to be big into F1. They took over from Heuer as Ferrari's watch & timing equipment sponsor throughout the '80s. Longines was also the official timekeeper of Formula 1 from 1982 to 1991, just prior to TAG Heuer's first run as timekeeper from 1992-2003. Then they just vanished from the scene...

Sure $3750 would've been awesome, but that was never going to happen. Not with Fr茅d茅ric's current strategy of pushing TAG Heuer upmarket.
Gotta be very careful about moving upmarket. All the other big brands are trying to move upmarket too, and the size of the market decreases the further up you go. They could easily price themselves out if they get too aggressive.

I think their new lead designer, Julien Delcambre, is really good. He did this new Formula 1 chronograph . . . and he previously did the Only Watch Split Second Monaco and the Limited Edition Split Second Monaco that was introduced in April 2024.

Julien Delcambre, Lead Designer at TAG Heuer, posted this image . . . we all like the live shots, but this studio shot is pretty damn good! It's all about the aerodynamics!

That's a really nice composition.

@Jeff Stein, does each collection have its own lead designer? (Carrera, Formula 1, etc)

(i.e. the new glassbox had a different designer)

I'm not certain about the exact details of the org chart, but I believe that Julien is lead designer for the entire TAG Heuer brand. I believe that he is lead designer for a collection or maybe two (including the Monaco) and also has other lead designers reporting to him on other collections (Carrera, for example).

Attached photos are from the Collectors Summit (November 2024) and show Julien, with Morgan King; in the other photo you see Maria Laffont (Chief Product Officer) [far right] and the lead designer for the Carrera collection (whose name I don't have at hand) [between Morgan and Maria]. And, yes, I blacked out one of the trays of watches, as I'm not sure whether they have been released.

I am very interested to see if the new 3 hander watches carry the same case design aesthetics but at 38mm - if so I am very excited to see the releases 馃憤馃憤馃憤

While I can't pop for one right now, $4,900 doesn't seem too out of line for the Titanium DLC model. I have a CAJ2180 from a decade ago and it listed for $4,500:
I can vouch for the fact that it has a top-grade SW500 in it.

I'm curious, someone mentioned that the black Titanium case is DLC but the CBZ2085 I first stumbled on says the back and crown are DLC but the case is just Titanium. Clearly, there's some coating on it. Anyone know?

And somehow, I'm not too thrilled with "SPEED" on the bezel. Other than that, I love the colorways.

OMG someone else has one! This is the watch that got me into collecting. How is yours looking a decade in? I have a bit of polishing on some edges, but no real damage.

Also yes, agree about pricing (as in posted up there somewhere ^^), but also note that I paid about 47% rrp for mine in an outlet, and these hung around for a long time, so maybe $4.5k was reaching back then?

Julien is the lead designer but only since beginning of 2024 if I'm not mistaken.
TAG Heuer has different designers and, if it hasn't changed, each one has a different collection. And they now all report to Julien.

The woman you're talking about in the 2nd picture is not a designer, she's a product marketing manager. The designer for the Carrera Collection was someone else called Arnaud but I think he left the company.

I believe CBZ2084 (Yellow), CBZ2085 (Red), and CBZ2086 (Blue) are all DLC Titanium. All priced the same at $4900.

Although there are inconsistencies of the descriptions on TAG's website. Only the Yellow's case is described as DLC Titanium. The Blue & Red's case description says Titanium.

But if you scroll down the webpage for each watch, the Blue does say DLC Titanium, while the Red description says "sandblasted", which has got to be a webpage mistake.

So I stopped in at my closest AD this afternoon. Apparently they got one of the new F1s in, but it sold already. So still haven't had a chance to see one in person.
