From what people used to say, I believe Clark is likely the closest to Senna in raw talent and speed

Yes, in fact in several of these studies/surveys (not based only on cold figures or statistics) that always coincide in placing Senna as the best, Clark appears ahead of Fangio... there are many parallels between Senna and Clark, and it was even published a book on such similarities

In my personal ranking, I would place Senna first, with Clark and Fangio tied for second

I do recall this one. I know that any mathematical model has its quirks, but not even his own mother would have Christian Fittipaldi ranked at #11

Like any research study, there are certain limitations and also a defined scope. This study was up to F1 2014, before Mercedes began dominating in the F1 turbo hybrid era. A followup study should be done to update this given the same parameters used. I can’t say I can readily agree or disapprove the conclusion/results of the study. But what i do admire most about this study are it’s methodological approach, use of analytical data and ability to reproduce variables to arrive on a conclusion.. to a very controversial hypothesis 👍 although this study still needs to be critically-appraised and peered reviewed before a scientific body 😉

We all have our preconceived notions, biases and self-observations, and probably this study just wanted to give it a more scientific approach 😎

I don't disagree with Senna being ranked #1. But I do wonder how much of it has to do with Senna being the most recent of the legendary drivers. Meaning, most of the people who might have witnessed Fangio and Clark first hand (and hence ranked either higher than Senna) are no longer around or didn't get a vote.

From what people used to say, I believe Clark is likely the closest to Senna in raw talent and speed. I tend to think of Fangio as more like the original Schumacher in how he dominated the sport during his era.

Agreed about Clark.
It’s interesting the fact that Schumacher is almost never on the list of top drivers, even having almost all F1 records.

I’ve seen three Brazilian journalists who were in Imola ‘94 meeting again this week in a web meeting. It lasted about 3:30 hours. They said Senna answered them in off quoting the slogan of TH, when they asked about Schumacher compared to him. Meaning Schumacher would crack under pressure. I had never heard that before!

It was quite prophetic: Indeed, we have seen him crack under pressure at least three times since then: ‘94 agains Hill, ‘96 against Villeneuve and in 2005 or ‘06 in Monaco qualifying agains Alonso...

Is it possible to sort the galleries into chronological order by year of release?

Potentially yes, but... it would mean me going into every watch and labelling it with a date, and as I'm still only 30% through labelling them with dial colours etc, probably not! Also, 'blogger' seems to be moving to a new 'less user friendly' interface - which is making the job that much harder, so thanks for that Google.

Ah, I see. That would be a major undertaking!

Indeed, I'm already regretting this bunch of labelling!

Yes, although to be honest my purpose for doing it was so that I could pick my 5 favourite 'Senna' branded watches for a blogpost... but I can label those two as well.👍
