Whenever there's a limited edition, there are always people trying to sell them for inflated prices afterwards. Maybe some of them get lucky eventually. Maybe the high asking prices mean they are able to get a higher ultimate sales price, but these ads in no way indicate that there is a strong demand for these pieces with lots of people willing to pay these absurd prices. In most cases, these watches hang around on the market for a long time.

I am 100% convinced that if I had a Seafarer to sell and I really wanted to move it on fast, I'd have to sell it at close to the original sales price (at best). If I priced it similarly to the ads above, I doubt it would shift very quickly.

I agree that the price over the long term is the more interesting point. Still, I would say that this one appears to be doing well, two months after the release. I’m sure we’ll also check in on this model at the one-year mark.

Based on what though? Asking prices or sold prices?

I tried searching eBay but can’t find any in my region and they don’t show up on worldwide search either.

Being as though you’ve posted eBay asking prices, can you toggle on sold prices so we can see those in relation to asking please?

can anyone recommend a high quality rubber strap for the seafarer (22mm) ? and does anyone have a better solution for the clasp in the original black rubber strap ?
I like the OEM strap , but not the clasp
IMO the original Tropic straps are tops. Strap Habit has good options for reasonable prices though and they're quick-release so you can mix & match.

Agreed.

Plus, 968 is a very large number and it seems some TH Boutiques may have gotten another small batch of these. Since @thingziliketoo's friend just got his Seafarer. See this post: https://tagheuerforums.com/threads/tag-heuer-photo-gallery-share-your-photos.61772/post-2407272

From what I've heard, his friend buys a lot from the same boutique as @Hubert (and me), so I doubt it was a secondhand purchase. Another boutique that I frequent recently got an additional Porsche 963 Skeleton, which is limited to 963 pieces. It seems those are not completely sold out just yet either.

Regarding straps, I was correct in my assumption that the Carrera Elegant's 42mm bracelet can fit on the Seafarer.

Having had no response, I have used a VPN and still cannot find any Seafarers listed on US eBay, either live or completed, so answering my own question about sold prices.

I partially agree. I think the limited edition FOMO is wearing off. I recently had to dump my full set unworn Monaco Titan for £5000, a rarer 500 piece LE which has the same, if not more history and significance than the seafarer. I think people are still buying watches, possibly not to flip at exorbitant rates, but trying to make a reasonable profit as if it was 2021-22.

Looking on eBay here in the United States, I’m not finding any completed sales of the TAG Heuer x Hodinkee Seafarer chronograph.

This seems like a good thing for TAG Heuer, if they were successful in selling the watches to collectors rather than flippers. We’ll keep watching to see how this develops.

There are no sales shown as "Completed" on eBay.

eBay is obviously only one sales forum, but this is evidence that would suggest there is no demand for buying these pieces used at present (at least not at the prices being advertised). It would further suggest that most people who really wanted one were (or still are) able to buy it new. Maybe we'll see more used sales once prices come down to a realistic level.

That’s a fair point, discounting those you found for sale at inflated prices on eBay and on Chrono24.

Some are clearly trying to capitalise, but nowhere near the numbers we’ve seen on other pieces.

Thanks for checking btw. 👍🏽

We can all interpret the data as we see fit, but I'm not sure how you look at the lack of eBay sales and conclude that there is no demand for these watches. Those who may be seeking to purchase these watches (or any other items, for that matter) are not able to indicate their interest on eBay, as the marketplace is driven by the sellers.

We might be able to conclude that there are no buyers interested in the $10,000 to $12,500 range, plus shipping and taxes / duties, but that's all I can take away from the data.

Brand new to the forums - howdy. My two cents on this.

I bought one of these last month and caught up with the AD in Dubai at the weekend. He'd mentioned the shipment to dealers was delayed out from the US at first, he got the first batch mid-September when it was launched mid-August. They were begging for the shipment as the waitlist was long.

The entire allocation sold out in a week. He didn't mention specific numbers of allocation but if I take the numbers mentioned for the recent Panamericana (6 out of 256 globally went to Dubai) then it would indicate 20-24 pieces for the Seafarer through one dealer in 7 days.

Not seen any for resale in the local market at all despite it being very strong for luxury pieces. I collected mine on day one of allocation, 2 other people in the shop were also completing and very much buying it for themselves.

Small sample size but would indicate this is one for collectors and enthusiasts. Whether anyone will be $10k+ for it I don't know, but I spent months looking for a piece up to a $12k budget (Zenith, JLC, IWC, Blancpain, Rolex etc) and think at $8k this was the most interesting of the lot within the price range.

I don’t think @imagwai is “conclud[ing] that there is no demand for these watches.” His statement is far more nuanced than that.

That is exactly what I suggested, isn't it?

I haven't seen any on the pre owned market here in Australia.
I know there were only 9 Pieces shipped here. 1 is still available in the Melbourne Boutique as we speak.
I believe there will be more coming to Australia if the demand is there (ie. Wait list).
