Saw the Pelagos 39 in the window yesterday, very cool watch. Two blue BB58 next to it. Completely different watches. I can see both in my collection

I picked Mars & Jupiter a couple of weeks ago, but I am saving the unboxing for Christmas.

Same here! I really like the Mars, fun tribute to the Alaska Project watches. What strap are you planning to put yours on?

Thoroughly recommend the 39. I’ve had mine on most of the week and it’s great.

I guess I need to start saving for the other two…

EDIT: Scratch that, the Tudor Pelagos 39 was the watch under my Orange AR in the article, so I assumed it was in that opening pic. Should have looked at it properly first. Would definitely prefer the Pelagos. Panerai looks cool though.

I realise this is not to everyone’s taste, but would love this. On sale at WoS too, with over £5k off, but still £11,750 and forever outside what I am prepared to spend.

Starting 2023 with a chuckle: How can you possibly still call this a “tropicalized” dial… 😲

(Source: C24)

PS: It’s a shame, really, because case, GF bracelet and even the movement still look promising…

So which "new 2022" release would be your pick for an Other Brand's WOTY? And also which watches would you give notable mentions?

My choice would probably be the Tudor Pelagos 39. With the Tudor Black Bay Pro being a potential runner up.

My notable mentions: I found the Omega 60th Anniversary James Bond Seamaster and Zenith "Lupin the Third" Final Edition to be very cool! Albeit a bit gimmicky as well.

There was nothing really new this year - lots of rehashes of old designs etc. that’s not necessarily bad but when I look back through who released what it was quite dull in parts (tag heuer had a reasonable year I think).

I agree re the 2 tudors. I also think the IWC mk XX is quite well done. I’d add the speedmaster 57 to the omega list and I think the 2 gold speedmasters are terrific (if I have a spare 25 grand lying around, I’ll have a green one).

lastly, I quite liked the longines ultra chron which looks a cool watch to me but I’m yet to see one in person.

Other Brand's WOTY
Ok I'll play. My non TAG WOTY is the Hublot Big Bang Integrated Ceramic in perfect 'sky blue'. Absolute grail watch in 42mm with the unico 2 movement.

The two Tudors are both very nice, with the Pelagos being my choice of the two. Never seen that Hublot. It’s ridiculous and I love it. Also like the Speedmaster in Moonshine Gold, with the gold dial and black sub-dials. Looks great on Gold bracelet or Black Rubber strap tbh.

To add something new, I would say the Breitling Navitimer in either of these two options:

Or perhaps the Cosmonaute version, limited to only 362 pieces, with 24 hour dial and platinum bezel:

Those navis are lovely - I tried the ice blue one on, but they only do that colourway in 43mm which was a smidge too big. The green was quite nice in 41mm however if you like this kind of thing (very loud)

I very much like the green too. Looks way better in the flesh than on pics, in fairness. Didn’t include that on my above list, just to narrow it down. Looks a lot better sized in your photo. Hadn’t seen them next to each other like that.

I haven’t tried them on, as that’s dangerous territory as I think that could be my next, and hopefully final, choice and not in a position to do so at this point.

The size will be a real question for me too though, as the Breitling’s I have tried on have all looked and felt big on the wrist. Long lug to lug too.

Saw this in a Fratello article today.
Seems to think it might be coming this year.
Probably watches and wonders.

The Cosmonaute would be my pick out of the Breitling releases. Another Zenith release that I liked was the Hodinkee collab with its salmon dial.

I was on the fence with the cosmonaute when it was introduced, didn't know how I would feel about the 24 dial. The current Zeniths feel slightly off due to the decimal meter which doesn't make sense with the 1/10 of a second chrono hand.
