You can't go wrong with a BB58. Probably the best vintage inspired dive watch out there, at a very reasonable cost given build quality and the in house calibre. I was browsing these on C24 and elsewhere and for some reason these trade only marginally under srp or sometimes even over. Bizarre, as these can be had on the spot or with little or no wait. The original smiley BB58 are trading at 5k or even higher, I find that very interesting. The Pelagos is no competition however. Also a Tudor but an entirely different watch. No vintage inspiration anywhere, just a very well made modern dive watch. I very much prefer the Pelagos bracelet over the BB58. Next time at the AD I will try both and see which I like the most.

There are still sellers out there trying to take advantage of a perceived wait for these models. But it's rubbish. In the UK at least, the "real" value of a BB58 (blue or OG) on the open market is probably about £2200-2400 or thereabouts, so considerably under retail price.

Agreed. I tried the normal Pelagos prior to getting the Seamaster and really liked it. Different but cool.

Loved the FXD from the moment it was released, as it’s even more different and offers something new by its limitation on being strap only. Still not managed to actually see one in the flesh though.
I put my name on the list for the FXD as soon as it was announced last year. I finally got the call for one few months back, almost a year later. But I decided to pass, as the Pelagos 39 had been announced by then. I knew I'd want a P39 in blue on a bracelet more than the FXD and my desire for the FXD had subsided a bit by the time I got the call. So I can wait 'till they release one in a color I want.

Still hard to beat the BB58 with its vintage inspired charm though. It's been my go to daily wear and do anything watch since I got mine in 2020. That was until I got my Seamaster NTTD earlier this year, which I find more comfortable to wear due to the lightness of titanium. Ironically, my Submariner was my daily wear watch for the last decade prior to the BB58, but now sees very little wrist time.

Wouldn't you be better off selling it to me then? 🙄

LOL. It was a wedding anniversary gift, so it will never part my collection. My wife and I decided to get his and her Rolex watches, I chose the Sub, she chose a Datejust.

I understand the desire subsiding. I really wanted one at the time and would have ideally liked the MN21 showing on the caseback. That would have been perfect. Mine will be MN23, at best, so not quite the same thing.

As for daily wearing, I hear you on the comfort of the Seamaster, albeit mine is the standard black on steel. It’s definitely more comfortable than my new AR, even though that fits lovely too In fairness.

Regarding the BB58, my only reason for not getting one is the rivets, plus the fact that there are so many people with them now. That’s very ironic considering the dislike of the HE valve and the sheer number of black Seamaster’s that must be knocking around. 😀

Just buy one on leather or fabric. Makes a nice change from your other watches on bracelets and compliments the vintage style more than the bracelet. I think they're only popular on watch forums, I don't think I've seen another in the wild...mostly people just wear apple watches or garmin.

Yeah, I've never seen one out in the wild either. I'm probably in the minority, but I like the faux rivets, makes it different from most other divers out there.

I have to say the more I see the P39, the more I like it. Would be a tough call for me if I didn't own a BB58 already and so many other black dialed watches.

Same in France: “Standard” BB58 used price on bracelet is about 3k max. (for both colorways).

@Yago - There is no “Smiley” BB58 (IIRC). What you may have seen are examples of black ETA BB 41mm, which only had a very short production run (couple of months) and for which there is quite a bit of speculation going on.

You are correct. In that case the 58 is still the first or have there been marks already?
Maybe we should start a dedicated tudor thread.

The OG (black & gilt) BB58 is the first of its kind.
A Tudor thread has been suggested before, but @Hubert axed the idea and suggested to keep things here.

I’m with you there. I like the faux rivets, and I’ve seen picture of the BB58 on the Ranger bracelet and it looks odd, (guess used to it or my mind thinks Rolex). On the wrist the rivets aren’t an issue IMHO.

I have the Tudor BB58 nato as a present from the other half, got to go collect it this week.

I’ve only spotted 2 in the wild. One at Gatwick as I was browsing WoS, some guy spotted mine and said snap. The other, is one of my good mates who purchased one (he almost bought the 2022 Dark Lord before).

Yes, let's try to keep all 3rd party brands in here.

Uncle Seiko and Forstner have a few rivetless bracelets that fit the BB58. The Forster Model O looks really good. Great end link fit and a nice taper that the original doesn't have.

The new Ranger bracelet also fits the BB58 as I understand. That is fully brushed with no rivets.

Indeed but I’m not sure if you can switch between these at AD, I expect not. Ordering the ranger bracelet separately will cost an arm and a leg.

AD will order one for you. But yeah, it'll probably be about £500.

Fair shout that, but for me I would rather not pay for a bracelet I don’t like, only to replace with another at additional cost. Not when there are other models I like which don’t have the rivets to start with. I would prefer to pick one up on a strap instead.
