to be honest the reason I ended up with my 58 was the disappointment with the dial finish on the ranger… the embossed markers compared to the painted 3 6 9 in particular. I checked the bb58 hands marker and dial with a loupe in the shop and I was pretty impressed frankly.
Yes - at first glance and certainly when you compare to the 58’s it can seem simple and cheap in comparison. It’s one of those that grows on you the more you wear it however, and I think they meant it that way. They could have applied markers, but then it wouldn’t have been a Ranger - albeit with what they’ve done with the pro/P39 you might have expected them to use the ceramic lume.

but I have to say, the 58 dials are nice - esp the bronze with the applied numerals. It’s a really interesting dial on a thoroughly well done watch - I’d love to get one at some point.

Are you going to let it patina, or invest in a job lot of streadent tablets to keep it gold looking?

That’s fascinating, how do you rotate them? Do you find them similar to wear or very different. Do you use them for different purposes etc??
It is a challenge rotating watches.

I bought the Rolex Sub 11 years ago and it was my go to daily wear watch for the last decade. I got the BB58 in 2020 and it has sort of replaced the Sub as my do anything go anywhere watch. These two wear very similar, I was attracted to the OG BB58 because it reminds me of the vintage Sub 6538, known as the original James Bond Submariner.

The Omega is my newest addition, purchased this June and I'm still in that honeymoon period, so it gets the majority of my wrist time. It wears very differently from the other two. Surprisingly for me, it doesn't wear as large as most 42mm watches do on my wrist. But the size difference is visually noticed compared to the Sub or 58. However, being titanium, it feels very light and comfortable in comparison.

Hey @stevec14, curious about your thoughts on the BB Pro v Ranger v Pelagos 39 and how they compare. If you could keep only one, which would you choose?

One thing I’ve noticed with my recent Tudor… bb58…. I think they got the anti-reflective and reflective paint mixed up.

no issue when reading time, just put the face square to my eyes. But for taking a photo??? A pain

fits really nicely with the t fit adjustment though
If the 58 Bronze is like the other 58s, it only has anti-reflective coating on the inside of the domed crystal. So it can be reflective and challenging when taking pics.

that’s a tough one I honestly don’t know. I’m very interested to see how it patinates and I’ve seen some images that look really attractive with the grey finish it picks up. However I could see myself periodically giving it a clean… maybe at the start of summer… I think we will have to wait and see.

from what I’ve read it will change quite quickly in first weeks/months and then stabilise a bit.

It does look good all shiny though…..

Ooh bloody hell - that’s a great question, and excuse the long answer. They are 3 very different watches (and bear in mind I’ve had the p39 for only 2 days).

The pro ticks lots of boxes. It’s rugged, looks good, the dial is great and it has a complication which I really enjoy. I also love it on the nato which is something I thought I’d never say (bracelet on way). Some bemoan the thickness, but I’ve never found it an issue at all.

The ranger is an unassuming, boring, time only, printed dial watch with a great bracelet and great build quality. It’s my work daily at the moment, and is one of those that just does what it does without any hoo-hah. I love it for that, and it’s grown on me hugely.

the pelagos is a step up in materials and there’s not much not to like about it really (comparisons to 42 aside). I don’t know why they’ve called it a pelagos really, as to all intents and purposes this is as close a Tudor will go to the Sub IMO. Its the same thickness as the Ranger/ 58 and so easy to wear being titanium. I also love Adrian’s natos on it, and that will be something I’ll do too.

so which would I keep? All three have different complications/ purposes and I hope I don’t have to find out I’m tempted to say the Ranger, which costs quite a lot less than the other 2 and has squirrelled it’s way under my skin, but every time I wear the pro it puts a smile on my face. The P39 is a great watch no doubt and a step towards a more modern aesthetic I think for Tudor. I really do think they have knocked it out the park here.

Longer term, that may well be the one but right now I think the Pro is the best watch Tudor make at a price point that is pretty low for what you get (date, true GMT) so that would be it. I’ll change my mind tomorrow 😁

I’m looking forward to the pics as it goes through the stages and getting your thoughts. I think it looks great now but I guess there’s a certain charm to the patina.

I did tell you it was long. The reality is, you can’t pick between them, they are all great. If you like Tudor then you are in luck as there are many decent watches to decide between. good to have choice 👍

For me it’s about how often I can be bothered to clean it up and whether it’ll com out spotless; I like to wear watches not get all persnickety about little marks and, in this case, tarnishes. Yeah we’ll just see how the patina develops I think. There’s also part of me that thinks the bling is a summer thing, might suit winter better with a bit of tarnish

For sure. The great thing is you can get rid of it as you wish so it’s anything you can do when you want…

It’s not about being spotless. I myself don’t care about that. But apparently an occasional overnight dip can help keep it more gold if that what you want.

As I’ve sat here tonight peeping at it in the pub I am genuinely wondering whether I’ll be able to let it fade away….

Been waiting for this video, Adrian (Bark & Jack) does a great comparison of the BB58 v P39 v P42.
Nice review; I like this Tudor 39. On a side note, I was surprised to see that Adrian wears an earing. (You can see the reflection at minute 8:00)

All this Tudor goodness prompted me to visit an AD. Their P39s were sold and gone, long wait list I was told. But I did finally get to see the Ranger, which was also sold but hadn't been picked up.

I must say it's nicer in person than in pics, I can see why you like it. 👍

lucky it was IWC. If it was Tag Heuer, it might make it into international breaking news.

That's just normal chronograph operation. I'm sure there are chrono movements out there with jumping hours subdials but most are smooth.

Unfortunately, my IWC Pilots Watch Chronograph with the new in-house movement has developed a problem with the minutes counter 😒

Spent sometime revisiting Zenith, gosh these were all so nice! (and expensive... sigh)

Still not sure which is my favorite.
