Wow. Would you look at that. 馃槻 I take back the word "homage" and will replace it with "almost a copy". 24hr sub dial instead of 30 minute counter, 60 minute counter instead of 12 hour totalizer, no GULF livery, different handset.
This one is what I'd call a "full on copy": https://www.instagram.com/p/CsRHcQbSUzz/

So apparently Breitling are killing it with their retro heritage inspired range. Meanwhile some here like to argue it鈥檚 only the watch collector minority who seek vintage inspired watches and the real market doesn鈥檛 care about those.

How many quartz powered sub 拢2000 watches does Brietling sell again?

And which Breitling exactly is selling so well? I would love to know. Looking around their boutique on Saturday I thought pretty much everything was dreadful in many different ways. Jim liked the Chronomat though, but that bracelet is disgusting.

If sales is the only objective then apparently the way to go is to make 1 watch in many different forms (Cartier) or 1 watch in many different materials or colours (RM).

The only genuinely 'vintage' looking watches in the Breitling range are the Pistachiograph type right?

Unless you are including this garbage?

I think the Top Time models are very popular with the Mustang, Corvette and Cobra releases. Now there added the Thunderbird.

The Premier Collection also goes well.
Everything from a Chrono to Tourbillon.

Navitimer is a classic that has a big following also. So I'm not surprised to see the Brand going in the right direction.

Okay, but TAG's audience is not the same as Breitling. The argument that because it works for Breitling then it works for TAG is flawed. TAG's biggest seller is the Connected, still... let's not forget. It's a big ask to switch a Connected customer to a 39mm Panda.

Or TAG could copy RM and make everything 100x the price and scrap all the heritage models, because it worked for them, eh?

I like her coat. More watches should be lime green. But saying that, I saw the Oris Kermit on Saturday and that thing is awful.

I wonder if the Brietling forum is populated by 90% people who hate all the retro-crap they make now and pine for a return to the glory days of the 1980s?

I think the whole point of the Connected is to draw the younger crowd in, then make them feel a connection to the brand and make the natural step to a Mechanical Watch.

I've owned every Connected model from the E1 to E4 and I like Mechanical watches also.

But on the whole, if you attract that younger crowd with titanium Connecteds, what kind of mechanical watches are they most likely to gravitate to? 44mm Sports or 39mm Glassbox.

I mean, I feel like even that is flawed logic, I'm not sure that people really do make the progression, I think Connected people like Smartwatches, and yeah the odd one may change over, but the forums here are pretty separate. The 2nd Generation was the one that maybe promoted switching... but I don't know. The forums here are very separate.

Anyway, the whole argument is moot isn't it. It works for Breitling, but it doesn't mean it works for TAG. TAG is positioned as a modern 'Avant Garde' brand, Breitling isn't.

You could argue that the way to make TAG Heuer 'great again' is to drop the TAG part of the name and only re-issue old models, drop the Connected etc etc... but that's a hell of a leap of faith to take isn't it?

I seem to get conflicting information about TAGs newer releases. I heard they are struggling to sell the glassboxes and struggling even more to sell the 42mm ones with the orange swoosh around the edge (which I like but not at 拢5000).

Also, WOS still have the WOS panda in store in London. How is that possible? Watch of the bloody Year!
