·This is great video and research understanding the global reach of Naomi Osaka 👍 Only the biggest stars in the biggest brands.
Well this didn't go great.
At the young age of 23 Naomi has decided to retire from Tennis.
Not sure how Tag Heuer will get any traction from this Partnership now.
At least she did win a major while wearing a Tag.
I think you misread something. It was her older sister Mari that retired from tennis.
This was back in March..I found the article about Naomi..she's retiring from doing press conference after matches starting thus week with French open.
Apparently she suffers from depression and is going to take time off to deal with her mental health. I think she's doing the right thing. Let's hope she recovers and comes back even stronger.
Sponsorship business is another thing. We’ll wait and see from TAG Heuer if this will be a tipping point. I know they have terminated sponsorships after sport scandals of previous ambassadors. I believe, this is an opportune time to voice out mental health issues, often an underestimated, overlooked topic. This might even be a great opportunity to use media and deliver a message across the globe 👍 Just my 2 cents.
Wouldn't be a good look to drop sponsorship of her under these circumstances. Best thing Tag Heuer could do now is come out and fully support her choice.
It's a tough position because if the Tennis bosses let her skip the press due to mental health issues then it opens the door for everyone else to go down the same path. It would turn into a nightmare.
As we've seen in many different sports and normal everyday life Mental health issues are sometimes used as an excuse to get out of certain situations
Sponsorship is one thing. But it doesn't seem right on a fundamental level that you can't enter a tennis tournament if you're not willing to do press interviews.
