Congratulations again! 👏🏼👏🏼
That was a lot of hours of work… applying thin layers of paint, waiting for it to dry thoroughly before applying more layers. Did you calculate how many hours it took you to put it together?
It would be cool to see a photo of the kit as it came in the box along with all the paints and tools you used, so that the merit of that final result could be appreciated even more 👍🏼
Thank you very much, I'm really glad you appreciate the work
@Albert-AMG! 😘🙏
I started in early Nov., in anticipation of the Netflix Senna series release, finished in mid Dec. Spent a few hours a day, a lot of it was prep work for the paint. So it took many many hours! LOL
I used to own an air brush when I was really into the hobby decades ago. But found with smaller scale kits, e.g. 1/20th, I could get a good paint result with Tamiya spray by using thin and even layers. Other paint brands don't work as well for me, so I only stick with Tamiya. If I were to do a larger scale kit again, e.g. 1/12th, I'd probably need to buy another air brush.
Here's what the McLaren MP4/7 kit looks like unmade next to the finished MP4/8. The MP4/7 is the last of the 1/20 scale Tamiya kits that I bought when Senna was still alive. The problem with making 30 year old plastic kits is the decal sheets yellow, so I bought new aftermarket decals. Also, some pieces may not fit well, as they can warp with age. This takes added work as well.
This pic gives an ideal of the basic tools I use. (Ignore the watch case holder clamp on the right, that's for a different hobby.
😜)
I also spend many hours looking at lots of photos of the real car. Trying to decide which parts I want to accurately recreate and whether to build the kit based on a certain race configuration or a hybrid from various GPs. I decided on the latter for the MP4/8.
