IMG_2280.JPG IMG_2281.JPG IMG_2279.JPG OK I'm very confused and more so than usual. I have been collecting Heuer's and other Motorsport related timepieces for 25+ years and have been recently been going through all of them and selling/trading on eBay primarily (kmkmak). Now to the point, I have this beautiful Autavia with a Cal 12 movement and case 15640 and serial number 3136xx. Is this a "Franken" watch or am I missing something? OTD shows it as a Skipper or is it a highly unusual one off :) any and all help greatly appreciated. Thank you, Ken

That is unusual. Yes, you do see Skipper cases marked 11063V for the 15640, but I don't recall seeing the cases going back the other way. We can only guess at why your watch has this combination, but the most likely explanation is that someone has fitted an Autavia dial and handset to a Skipper in the view that it would be worth more.

Thank you. Ironically, I've owned it for over 30 years! Scammers even then. Ken.

I wouldn't rule out a more innocent explanation. The example I always use is an old Alfa GTV that I used to have. There were two types of instruments used in the car, and the truth is that your car got whichever one the guy on the assembly line grabbed first- there was no rhyme or reason to which car got which set of instruments.

Given the cases are the same, you wouldn't rule out a mistake being made, especially as things got a little (lot!) hectic in the last days of Heuer.

David, thank you for the responses. I get more cynical with age. Regards, Ken.

Also possible is that it was carelessly switched during a service back then - there are many stories of watchmakers in those days putting serviced watches back together using whichever parts were at hand, which were sometimes parts of two watches of the same model

    Hi Folks:

Is there any version of a Viceroy that has smooth, not grooved, pushers? I am trying to determine whether the Viceroy I just received (my first Heuer!) has incorrect pushers.

    Thanks so much!

Hi retroworx, I have a Viceroy and it has grooved pushers, as does the other pre-Vicroy 1163 I own.
I thought they all had grooved pushers.

Afraid those would be incorrect. I had a Viceroy with smooth pushers before too, it didn't really bother me but if you want to replace them, keep an eye on eBay as fluted pushers sometimes come up.

Thinking about grabbing something like this from a european dealer. Any idea on if this type of Abercrombie & Fitch 2444 was every made? I've only seen the ones with applied indices and dauphine hands:

    Hello,

Would love your thoughts on this watch. Is this for real? Redial? Franken? Doubts of authencity were raised. So seeking your expert advice. .Looks like 18k pink gold.

OK, so not sure on this one. It has a very similar look to the Ref. 2558 from the 1940s, but that watch has a triple date function. The Heuer logo from this era wears a lot thinner than the one on your watch.

Sorry- its very hard to give good quality answers on Heuers from this era as we don't know as much about them as we do the 50s onwards.

    Hello, all!
What would you say about this one? Is it a Pasadena? Authentic?
My knowledge is very limited, but have been doing my homework online, looking for photos and texts with descriptions and what to look at, but am still struggling to tell.
    Thanks!
