I respectfully disagree - there's a disparity between a fake (trying to fool you it's the original), a knockoff (trying to look like the original), and an homage (borrowing design elements as a respectful nod to the original). I would argue that the difference between a fake and a knockoff is, you knowingly buy knockoffs.

There's a huge gulf between those and an homage - a respectful, deferential nod to an original or an inclusion of original designs in a remake.

A knockoff is trying to fool OTHERS into it being an original, while a fake tries to fool you. The homage did neither of those things. That's like saying invicta is knocking off rolex with some of their designs. No one is going to be fooled by anything but a cursory glance. From a distance. Hell, at least some of the AWFUL fakes in this thread, pretending like they were TRYING to make it tag heuer. They at least use the name and logo and such. This one is a cheap homage with a crap ton of the same design elements, but in no way trying to pretend it's actually a tag heuer.

Not to mention, one is illegal, and one is not.

I thoroughly agree with both of these. The left watch may not fall under what you'd consider a knockoff, but it is imitating the original to such a degree that "homage" is not applicable - it's not a respectful reinterpretation, reimagination nor does it pay homage to the watch or brand.

@Chappo I see you found the correct thread for your question. I'm sorry, but the answer is the same. That watch is fake. No question. Again, sorry I know this isn't the answer you're looking for.

Hi all, just purchased this way208c.fc6383 from eBay, listed as new without warranty. Just a bit concerned about its authenticity, can you guys help? Been waiting for this watch to buy new for ages as missed it when it was for sale by Tag back in 2017 and was quickly discontinued. Lume dot is the bit that concerns me and the lume on the face is very very poor.

Well, take a look at a real tag heuer lume.

The lume dot on mine does not feel proud of the bezel insert, should it?

The lume on the fakes are kinda just liquid poured into the hole. The real ones are actual lume inserts that are seperate from the bezel. You can see the little bezel around the lume, and tiny little gap around it.

I also think the sticker tags with the model and serial nr, under the QR code are left alligned on the original. Mine are at least.

when it's too good to be true... To find a new way208c is unusual as they have been discontinued for so long now. Gutted!

Do ebay require proof it's not authentic to refund? Me sending a lume dot pic probably won't cut it lol.

I am actually more gutted I've not got my perfect watch I've been waiting for.

Ebay couldn't care less, and you don't need to prove anything. Plus, ebay doesn't even have a return option for " is fake". The option is something like " might be fake". Who did you buy it from?

I thought eBay buyer protection had a good reputation, certainly won't be happy if I can't get my 900 quid back!

I think you misunderstood me. Ebay has VERY good buyer protections. They will take your word for whatever you say. seller HAS TO accept return. Seller HAS to refund you. Hell, you can send an empty box, and they have to refund you.

Can you please tell me which seller this is tho? I can advise you better.

aa_timepieces was the seller. I've noticed they have had a few new aquaracers (not way208c) for sale in the last few days under exactly the same specifics ie. Grey Market sourced. His communications have been very good as I questioned the serial number on the Tag website did not register, he said only AD sales would be registered.

He is right, only AD sales are registered. Serial number registration is for warranty purposes. Grey market can't have that. Can you send me a link to the seller? I can't seem to find him.

The grey dealers have to buy at the AD just saying. A lot of grey dealers activate warranty at the AD when purchasing. No warranty activation may be a red flag for fakes.....why would not original owner have warranty ?? ;-)

I would assume so......

You are misunderstanding what a grey dealer is. They aren't owners. They don't buy from the AD typically. SOMETIMES the AD will off load inventory. But there will NEVER be a tag heuer warranty with grey market. Only an original owner selling their used watch, would have a warranty. No warranty activation is not a red flag for fakes. It's just a watch not bought from a dealer. That's it.
