Is it at all possible to fake a Tag Heuer watch & fake a warranty card code that checks in with the serial number on the TH website when registered?

Hi,

I bought this Tag Heuer WAR201E from a pawn shop recently.

I was wondering whether any kind expert could give me their opinion as to the provenance of the Calibre 5 movement to be found behind its exhibition case-back.

Just want to check I did not buy a suspect (replica) watch.

Is anybody familiar enough with the Calibre 5 movement to give me a qualified 90% opinion?

Yes. They only need to have seen one genuine one, to make thousands of them based on that single one.

It looks fine - if you can, take a pin out of the bracelet and remove the collar. Then post a photo of the pin & collar side-by-side.

Thanks for that.

I will see if I can get the one of the pins out.

I understand that Calibre 5 has 2 movement options.

https://calibercorner.com/tag-heuer-caliber-5/

ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW200-1

My movement is listed as having 26 jewels instead of 25 which would make it a Sellita movement

https://calibercorner.com/sellita-caliber-sw200-1/

I can see the almost hidden SW200-1 engraving underneath the balance wheel on my watch so I think is probably legit.

What would the bracelet link pin and collar reveal?

The first thing I noticed about the watch when I got it was the silky smooth feel of the bracelet link movement. It is a stark contrast to the generally more rattly jingly sounds and feel from my many other metal bracelets on my many other (cheaper) watches.

If you don't have a tool to remove the pin, it's not worth you trying and potentially damaging your bracelet.

The watch is probably fine - checking the pin & collar is just one way of checking for a fake.

Hey guys, wanted to buy one tag for my dad but im trying to find erm rather “cheaper” options. Anyway seller says this comes with box and warranty card and all. Can anyone help me authenticate this? It sounds too good to be true. I have a couple of pictures from different sellers but i’ll send this one first.

Someone else can probably help you better than I can, but this is a VERY faked model, so it's good that you have come to ask. But bear in mind that the photos you are sent may not be of the actual watch you receive. They may even have multiple watches with the same serial number.

What's the price?

Interesting, the seller sold lots of high prices watches with good ratings. I know the retail price is around 1.4-1.8k pounds. He is selling for only 500 pounds. Its obvious I know. But I still have a couple more photos from other sellers. Also thanks for your response.

The problem with ratings is that people leave them within a few days. Most people don't find out they have bought a fake until it needs a battery or a repair, which can be 3 or 4 years... personally I would leave it alone, 500 pounds is ridiculously low. I know it's annoying but if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.

Yeah I would most definitely leave it alone. Also the other picture I sent, seller says its grey market… Oh and yeah I checked with ANOTHER seller and the serial number is exactly the same. Its a shame for the ones who bought those higher-end watches from that seller. Thanks again.

For God's sake...
What is there to ask when the price is 1/3 of the real value and the watch is new....
There are only two explanations. It's fake or stolen.
Such a discussion makes sense if we are talking about a used watch, a few years old, and it wouldn't cost £500 anyway....

I don't know what country you are in but you can currently buy the first watch direct from TAG Heuer via their outlets at Bicester Village or Cheshire Oaks (in the UK), they have it on sale as it is discontinued. It's still £1350, but at least you know 100% it's genuine and you still get a 2 year warranty.

Haha sorry I wouldn’t buy it in the first place. It’s just hilarious that they’re all stated as original and authentic.

Thank you! I’ve already surveyed a couple shops and outlets. Just wanted to see your reactions. Thanks for your help!

Hi guys! Thanks for your input all along my “journey”. I got my money back and finally bought the watch I posted here a few weeks ago. Shot some close up photos, what do you think? The serial number checker doesn’t recognise it (ending in 22) but recognises serials ending in 21 or 23 of WAY201As, so I guess it may not be that much of a problem?

Is it genuine? I have some days to confirm the payment on Chrono24.

Hello,
This is my First Post and i want to ask if someone can Tell me if this watch is real.
The owner says he bought it about 20 years ago in a Tag heuer Store but i am Not really sure about that. I would be very thankful about a quick answer!
