I like it. Telemeter scale could be handy during thunder storms to measure your distance away from a lightning strike.
Looks great, thanks for the info, as you say it has its different details to the recent set of Heuer editions, will have to see it in comparison to my JH80 to see if it needs to be added to my collection
All I can say is I would have preferred a COSC certified Cal. 17 in a solid case back. How can it be vintage inspired with a see through case back? Furthermore, this is coming in around the pricing of the CH80. Lol
Looks a great watch but would like to see some lives shots before coming to a final verdict. To echo Drunken Monkey the glass looks different to what we have seen recently. The Link calibre 18 was a wonderfully slim watch so nice go see the movement used again.
I'm keen to find out what this "Glassbox" is- I think that will explain why the crystal looks the way it does. Movement for me comes down to thickness- I'd probably opt for a thinner Calibre 18 than a COSC Calibre 17, given that both movements are pretty similar.
I do like the look of the later pushers on the JH80 Calibre 17 but the old school pumper pushers on this Calibre 18 model do look a bit more vintage authentic given they're meant to capture the look of the old 60s Carreras
Hmm, that (bezel/crystal) does look better to me than those early 39mm Automatic Carrera models. Dammit, I already bought one watch this year that i wasn't supposed to.....
It's a thinner bezel, which does help. I'm waiting to see the profile/ side-on shot. The placement of the hour-markers is a little unusual- they're set away from the edge of the dial due to the telemeter scale
yeah, you might recall that I'm not usually a fan of the scales and the inset hour markers on period Carrera watches but that looks quite good on that one; it could be to do with what looks like a proper curved dome crystal. Not saying that I still don't prefer a scale-less dial but on a bigger watch (39 instead of the old 36) it doesn't seem so cramped. I'm still wondering about the crown/pusher positions. That strap looks interesting too.
DM: I also agree that the telemeter numbers make it look a bit too cramped. Also don't like the distortion caused by the curvature of the crystal. Lucky you David!
Setting the hour markers in-board is certainly consistent with Carreras of the past (Photo by @abcoro )
Good counter point David! Despite my previous observations, I like it very much and can't wait to get one.
Kind of Mark- I'm going over for a few reasons, and while I'm there I'll be spending a couple of days at TAG Heuer HQ and then going to the Geneva Motorshow, where TAG Heuer will have a stand and will apparently launch a couple of new watches ahead of Basel.
