Seems odd that they went to the trouble to mark the movement 'Heuer' and then put a TAG Heuer rotor on it... maybe it's a subtle way of sending a message that the two are in fact the same.
Well, I think it's more to denote that the company is celebrating 160 years and the company is TAG Heuer now. I very much like the design of the rotor with the "160 Years of Avant-Garde", it's one of the cooler features of this watch. But from a purist's perspective, I suspect it may seem a little cheesy and not in keeping with a re-edition. I'm not a purist, if I were, I'd only consider an original 1963.

I'm a purist, but I'm not interested in 1:1 reeditions. I'd rather see an honest attempt at updating the original, and that's what this is.

My thoughts exactly.

I love the look of the 160th, it's a great re-edition and marking a special occasion. But if I'm honest with myself, I think I like the looks of the Carrera Telemeter slightly better. I just have a thing for Pandas and I believe the Telemeter is flatter on the wrist compared to the 160th. I don't own a single Carrera yet, undecided if the 160th should be my first. It's really really tempting though... 😗

Funny you bring up the Telemeter. I'm so happy with the look of the 160th -- but later in the day I started looking for a Telemeter for sale. Then I remembered @Hubert. And then I read up more about the glassbox. Then I wanted a Telemeter even more. It's def the panda factor.

This was how I ended the evening of Jan 14, 2020.

I've been looking on and off for a reasonably priced Telemeter for a while now, but they are actually quite rare. Must be a reason people aren't selling. I had the chance to buy a brand new one for £2500 a year or two back. Kicking myself now. Having said that, there are a couple of things I don't like... the gold tinge to the dial, the curved edges of the dial, and the movement. Other than that, 👍

Agree about the gold tinge. Looks kinda dirty. But the grey subdials are niiiiiice.

Govberg had one for a while for ~$3800 USD. Was close to getting it but focusing on house remodel took priority.

lovely looking carrera. A dash more colour and I’d probably have to go back to WA soon.

Many TAGs are hard to find secondhand, probably because the people who buy them new are generally not as immersed in the watch world and don't really know they can re-sell them on forums

Possibly, although most other Carreras are obtainable in my experience. Example, there are 11 JH80 Carreras for sale on Chrono24 right now (most under £3000) and 6 Fujiwaras! (OK, the Fujiwaras are mostly selling at a premium, but there's no shortage). There's only one Telemeter and it's in Poland. None on eBay either which is where you'd expect non-WIS folk to sell.

Those are the "limited editions" they think they can get good money for though. As for the Fragment - if you look hard enough you can still find them new at MSRP; they're already selling below MSRP on forums.

Including wrist shots.

I could stare at that second photo all day, even if it wasn't a watch I was interested in... Man I can't wait for this one

First thing I'm going to do with mine, is change the strap to the Telemeter's perforated one.

I love perforated rally straps too. But I need something that's more of a dress watch and if I get this watch I might just keep it on the croc strap. BTW, what's the lug width on the Telemeter? 20mm?

99 more Carreras on the website than Aquaracers... I say we need more Aquaracers.😜

Most of the Carreras aren't Carreras though.....
