Heuer 02 - Date window malfunctioning

As I think most of you people know by now I recently bought the Autavia Heritage, an amazing watch that I am still super-excited about. However, I've noticed some problems with the date/date wheel where the dial didn't set properly or switched date at 12:00 instead of 00:00, although it was properly set up.

This happened yesterday again, and since I was up slightly later, I decided to follow how it would end. First of all, I was surprised to see that the movement doesn't seem to have a quick-set function, something that I would assume a brand new in-house chronograph movement of this calibre to have. This aside, by 00:00 the date had not changed. Fast forward a bit, and the date disc seems to have stopped completely and even now (14 hours after), the date has not set but has stuck in between the dates on the disk.

I've already contacted my AD, however since it's a new movement the watch likely needs to be sent to Switzerland for a check, meaning I won't be able to handle in the watch for another month since I'm currently in the mid of moving half across the world again. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Did you change the date by following the recommended hour precautions?

What precautions should I take when setting the date?
Please avoid changing the date between 8pm and 4am. The date-change mechanism is already engaged and a manual intervention could damage the movement.
No, I’m aware that you shouldn’t set the date between specific times and I always follow this very carefully.

Sorry man, that sucks 🙁

I had no idea that the Heuer 02 movement does not have a quick set date function, sounds really odd for a modern movement...

Wow i checked the tagheuer website instantly upon reading this. Yes it didnt said anything about quick date set. Unlike for example in heuer 01, calibre 17, etc.

They shouldnt have put the window date in the first place if that the case IMHO.

I used to own Navitimer with the same configuration of 3-6-9 but with no quick date set. It become annoying at some point...at least for me...

Surely it must do? Maybe it's just broken on this particular one. Need to check now...

No, my bad, I'm viewing this on my phone.

Would still be surprised if it doesn't have it. Perhaps another Autavia owner can confirm!

Yeah it's quite strange, especially for the reasons I wrote, being an all new movement and stuff. If you develop something like the Heuer 02 from scratch you shouldn't even consider NOT putting a quick set up there. But maybe it's just my watch being a bit funky now...
This article lists quick-set as a feature:

Plus your image above states "rapid date correction"
Here is the screenshot from the website in case it needed in this discussion

Yes I have only seen one post here on the forums somewhere saying it was a quickset date, but by then there were still very few owners of the watch.
I've however contacted my Boutique who promised to reach back to me, as well as sent an email to the TH service department where I explained the situation as well as commented on the lack of quick set date. Hopefully, they'll reach back to me soon!

The quick set date function is there, I’m sure. I can’t imagine I’d have done it any other way on the two Autavia 02’s I had on loan.

Thanks a lot for bringing this issue some clarity! It has to be my watch that is a bit strange then, besides not switching date as one would expect. Right now it's 22:55 and it has already started to switch date. It will be interesting to see whether the date switch tonight or what will happen!

I am starting to doubt myself, but as I’m so lazy i just feel I’d simply not have set the date and would have been annoyed and thought I’d have remembered it.

My vintage Autavia is one of the few watches that never has the date set as you have to wind it forwards and backwards to set the date, so it never gets set....which again makes me think the Heuer 02 movement was different.

You can quickly advance the date on the Chronomatic movements by advancing the hands from 9-12 and back to 9, then repeat. Makes dealing with date changes WAY easier

Yeah that’s what I meant with “winding it backwards and forwards” 😁

It’s fine for a day or two but if I haven’t worn it for a while it’s a pain, so generally it gets left as it’s perfectly normal not to wear the 11630 for a week.

I heard about this method long time ago when i still had my Navitimer. But i am too scared to damage the watch back then.

Is this method perfectly safe ?

I read in other forum one person asked his watchmaker and the watchmaker said "it's fine".

But i dont know...clearly this way wasn't in the manual.

A lot of guys have been doing it for years. I do it when I want the date to be correct and have no issues with my Calibre 12.....I just can’t be arsed to change it most of the time.

So, a quick update.

As I previously wrote, I sent an email to TAG asking for their recommendation. I was just contacted by the Swedish TAG Heuer agent, explaining that the Heuer02 actually DOES NOT have a quick-set of date (quite a surprise for many of us I imagine). Besides this, both my TH Boutique said that the watch has to be sent to La Chaux-de-Fonds to be taken care of since none of the service centres in Taiwan and/or Sweden has not yet received the sufficient training for this movement.

Hmm, seems like what you have been told by the Swedish TAG Heuer agent is not accurate. I have not worn my Autavia is some time but I do remember using the quick-set for the date the last time I wore it. Seems like it's a defect with your watch so hopefully it will be resolve soon.
