First TAG!

Hi all

Have been lurking for a few days but thought I'd step out of the shadows and say hi.

I recently came into TAG ownership following a charity raffle at work (we had a box of ex-sponsor supplied watches that were raffled for charity) in the shape of a Formula 1 Chronograph (CAU1110.BA0858).

It's been well used but is still presentable, and definitely not bad for £20. There was no box or documents supplied but I know it is genuine. There's also no service history so I guess the first job is going to be to get it checked over and serviced to make sure all is OK.

I'm then debating whether to get it refurbished, the bracelet and bezel are quite scratched in places, or whether to just enjoy it as an every day watch without the need to be precious about it!

Thanks for reading and will no doubt be picking brains soon!

Congratulations! Proper bargain at that sort of money!!

There’s some bezels on eBay at the moment that may be right for your new timepiece. I’d say if you put a new bezel on that it’s all you’d need.

If it’s a quartz which I assume it is, then not so much to really service unless it’s losing time, so just get on and wear and enjoy it I say. 😎

My similar F1 was the most accurate watch I've ever owned (admittedly quartz, but it was pretty much dead on over a long period of time). Definitely a bargain for £20. I would enjoy it as it is - as a very nice beater. Doubt it needs a service.

Thanks both.

Would you have a link to the bezels on eBay? I've been quoted between £350-400 for a service and refurb which, given the time of year, means it's not likely to happen soon. If I can make it a bit more presentable then it can become a nice daily watch (been wearing it all day today and is such a good weight).

One other question if I may, what is the likelihood of the seals perishing and rending it no longer watertight? It needs a good clean but I'm wary of attacking it with anything wet just in case.

Cheers

Get it pressure tested for a few quid at your local jewler/watch shop.

@OllyIB this was one of the bezels I saw: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182961160764

I don’t know enough about these F1’s, but maybe worth doing some research to see if it will fit. A blacked out (stealth) bezel would look great I think. Cheap to get fitted.

A simple service is not particularly expensive and you can get any seals replaced.

Here’s another bezel that may or may not work: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302571047260
