Will the existing CAL 1887 models persist? Or are they trying to phase out the "CAL 1887" terminology with "HEUER 01", given that it's the same movement?
From the sounds of it, they clearly recognise that the TAGHeuer that was created in 1984 isn't the same as Heuer was and so a distinction should be made between them. The separate badge will certainly help that separation and at the same time, rationalise the existence of what would be two very distinct characters. I'd previously discarded the idea because back then, the model lines didn't really support it in a consistent manner but if the new TAGHeuer is really going to be Hublot-lite (no comment on this itself) then the Heuer line as a separate entity to that is the logical solution. For a start, product wise, I know where I'd be looking for things to my taste in the future. It'd also give those overly badge conscious people something else to talk their way around...
Thanks. That seems to be impression I get, after seeing the predominance of the HEUER 01 models. More importantly, I would be interested to see any new Carrera Heritage variants.
Dial is much better on this than the skeleton, but man are these gross in person. Like wearing a tuna can on your wrist. The Cal.17 boutique chronometers had the right diameter, but again - so tall on the wrist. Here's hoping the heritage line is not just heritage in case width, but also in case height!
Yes, the originals were a bit too much for my taste too. This one could be massive as well, but it's certainly nice that we have a new option. I also agree that the ideal size for the Heritage line is the JH80 & the CAL 17 boutique chronograph variants.
This was the exact reason I (very reluctantly) sold my JH80 Carrera. Case was just too thick and appeared bulky on my 6.5" wrist. The CH80 movement was supposed to be thinner (although they previewed it in a standard case). My hope at the time was they would use it to make a thinner version. Of course I would have liked 2mm off the diameter as well, but didn't ever hold out much hope for that!
Oh right, totally skipped my mind this is 43mm, not 45 like the original. Something to think about then, though the aesthetics still bother me some. Those Cal.17s were perfect, until I tried one on - it sits on my wrist like a skyscraper. If it were just a few MM shorter, it'd be perfect!
Yeah, look at that thing! It has the looks just about perfect, but it's soooo tall. Unfortunately, the height totally messes up the appearance of the lugs, too. They go from slim, cool and effete to just.... gross. The strap they sold those on was suuuuper sexy though!
