The other four Heuers auctioned at Christie's didn't fair that well. Only the Hodinkee skipper sold and the price realized seems pretty soft considering they were commanding a much higher premium a few years ago...

From the thumbnail at least they don't look like the nicest examples. And for a 2nd-ex 2447N to break the low estimate (likely the opening bid too) it has to be very nice. For a 2447S to break the same low estimate, it has to be among the very best in the world!

As for the Skipper, I think the overhype of the past couple years has cooled a bit which is good. Because as nice as that watch looks, it was absolute trash underneath :/

I totally agree! When hodinkee released it, I had one in my cart ready to hit buy but was underwhelmed by the movement so passed on it. The dial is pretty amazing though and is why I regret not getting one.

I did get one and enjoyed it. I think it was probably the turning point for TAG in terms of getting the aesthetics right - they really do sunburst metallic dials among the best in the business and it showed. But I really didn't like the way it felt on the wrist - completely, utterly cheap - and once prices started taking off I decided why not accept one of the ridiculous offers I got, and get something nice instead (can't really remember what exactly at this point though, lol).

Sometimes, I suppose it'd still be nice to have but honestly I think the Dato fills that gap really well. Maybe not the color obviously, but the funky single-register chrono vibe.

Silverstone blue Cal. 12, ref. 110.313. With some, shall we say, major patina? Sold for US$4,200. Beautiful

Hello all
Gentlemen Heuers coming up at Bonhams next week. Lots 59 ff. What is your take on them, especially the 2446M BS 1/2?
Cheers

Lovely line-up. Some are priced high, others low, pretty bizarre. The 2446 is the real deal. Previously owned by Haslinger and featured in his book apparently.

Beautiful. Agree that the estimates seem a bit all over the place, but the low ones will probably go way higher anyway. So it's probably just a means of luring in a larger audience.

As this is a UK-based auction, I suppose the final "gross" prices will really sting (especially for EU buyers) - between the premium on the hammer prize (in France that's roughly 25%) and the post-Brexit import duties...

Pretty flat results at Bonhams today, especially Rolex. Given pound exchange rate and 27,5% premium the Heuers did alright. The 50k reserve Autavia remained unsold at a bid of 48k.

On the other hand, if I ran a counterfit business this is probably a model I would produce regularily to make a really good profit 😎 I imagine old Heuer models would be a lot easier to counterfit with modern machining and tech, compared to counterfiting new well built models in the current catalogue made to a much tighter error margin?

It's just like "rare" coins. Only 100 or so known, they say, but show up in auctions nearly every year. My guess it's a recent owner testing the market hoping to set a new record high to score big.
