Managed to try out the glassboxes today at my local AD. The gold skipper seems like its weight in gold. The regular Carrera is unbelievably light. Not a big fan of the bracelet though

Bargain price!!!! 😎
Aren't Japanese C24 sellers notorious for advertising a to be sourced item and reversing the sale?

Not sure. Maybe a factor of the weak Yen and no local taxes.

These pieces won't be available until September 2024. Not sure how they can be advertised now.

Maybe they have an inside track with Team Ikuzawa & Bamford to get them in pre-release stage 😜?? These are established C24 vendors with close to 10k sales, so not really uninformed flippers.

Yes possible.
Just weird they are advertised now.
Anyone wanting to purchase will have to wait to receive it. I would be unhappy if I paid now and had to wait 5 months.

Yes, I've seen that too.

It still wouldn't be that cheap and there are local taxes in Japan. There's only 40 available, no way they'd resell for so little this far in advance. There's definitely something fishy going on.

Actutally the price in Japan is 16.72 mln ¥ (~87k £). Usually the Japanese sellers only sell internationally so they knock off another 10% consumption tax (equivalent to the VAT in UK/EU). This would put the watch at 15.20 mln ¥ (~79.5k £). So not that far off from the actual cost.

I do agree that placing the order for a rare, super-expensive watch in anticipation of getting it after 3-4 months seems a bit dodgy.

That makes sense.
But when I bought my Team Ikuzawa, I was told I needed to pay the consumption tax because I wasn't physically in Japan. If I had bought it in person, as a visiting foreigner, I would've been exempt from paying the tax. If the watch is coming from a TAG Boutique or AD, I assume these rules would apply. More likely it's from a secondary source, but then they'd still need to pay the tax when acquiring the watch, so still seems a little too low.

The various domestic prices for the watch is interesting from a global view. For example, the 121k GBP price equates to $150.5k USD. So depending on one's perspective, another local country's price might either be cheap or expensive (relatively speaking).

EDIT: Are these Monacos even available via ADs? I would think they might be Boutique exclusives, especially as they're customizable and only 40. Normally, TH Boutiques do not sell to other regions. (My case was an exception, as they did it as a favor to my good friend who bought many watches from them. He would've bought it on my behalf if they weren't willing to bend the rules, so either way I'd end up paying the tax.)

Maybe it's a VAT write-off for business purposes - not sure. But I've seen a number of Japanese dealer posts which specifically mention international shipping only. I had managed to negotiate a 10% discount on my Monaco Japan Mens Club Edition when I bought it from C24 based on the same premise.

That's a very good point - not sure how the customisations will be managed. Maybe these are like the Tiffany Nautilus where the customers were already identified prior to the launch. Possibly @Hubert also got offered one, but he must've declined for us peasants out there. 😁

LOL. My TH boutique sales rep was inquiring last year if I was interested in the Carrera Plasma, as they were presenting it on an invitation-only event at the Bellagio, during the F1 race. I passed; diamonds may be forever, but they are not my thing.

On Tuesday, I was asked if I liked the new Monacos, I said yes, but not more than the car I could buy for that price. 🤦

I'm sure with 3rd party sellers and pre-owned watches there's more flexibility with the tax. As long as the seller is making a profit, they can report the sale whatever way they want I suppose.

Very curious listings, that raises many questions: How is this seller going to get the piece, especially if only offered via Boutiques. Also, how does the seller turn a profit with the advertised price, unless acquiring the watch via some dubious means? Furthermore, would any buyer (with this level of disposable income) be willing to take the risk and not buy from a TH Boutique to get the red-carpet treatment?

My Porsche Carrera S will be coming up on 20 years of ownership in a few years. I could either buy a new 911 to replace it or get this Monaco. Guess which one I'd choose? 🙄

Exactly! I can wait for the democratized edition in a few years.

Side by side comparison of the bracelet option vs. rally strap on the panda.
I received mine earlier this week. I arrived to my nearest watchmaker too late (closed) to get the bracelet adjusted. I'm planning on going tomorrow. I have the black perforated strap ready to try, so that I can determine which option I'd like to go with.
