Great photos as always Hubert, thank you for sharing! Both models are sexy af in my eyes and I assume that this one is even better in the hand, just like the standard special edt model was when I tried that one on.

Thank you Jim! I really enjoyed this session. IMHO, this model is truly one of the best editions in recent years. 😀

I like the shade of blue on the "background" of the dial a lot better on the new model by the way but in the same way the standard special edt appears a bit more dressy if that makes sense

Both are special. The standard edition is really nice as well, but it doesn't look as good when illuminated.

On the other hand, when the starburst base is not directly lit, there's not too much difference.

Gulf Blue is Gulf Blue. I really don't understand why the two watches have different blue stripes. One is obviously wrong (the R model, I believe).

Aside from the red markers clashing with the orange, which was a deal-breaker for me, these two editions have kind of ruined the Gulf series of Monacos. It just seems like amateur hour!

Nice photos though 😀.

Yeah I’m not sure how they ended up with the darker blue colour, unless it was based on the Gulf oil colours prior to the racing livery colours, which were lighter and brighter.

Still makes no sense, and the 50th Gulf is certainly the better of the two.

Congrats @Hubert

I'm very envious Hubert, congrats again on a fine purchase. Unfortunately, for me being on the west coast US and super busy at work, by the time I saw TAG Heuer advertising the 50th, it was already sold out in the US. So, I will have to make do with my 40th Anniversary of the movie Le Mans LE Gulf Grey. 🙁

Thank you Michael. Hopefully there will be more Gulf editions soon. Nonetheless, I suggest that you keep an eye on auction sites. I will keep you in mind, if I ever come across one of these for sale.

Isn't the dark blue actually correct as the 'R' watch livery seems to be based on the driver's suits (Siffert, Jacky Ickx, Oliver, (McQueen) ) and not the car? Just look at the iconic Mcqueen Le Mans photos. In that respect the CW2118 is my favourite of the Gulf Monaco's although technically it doesn't mention Gulf on the dial. With the recent Gulf partnership I hope they'll find room for a Gulf Monaco based on the suits (white dial, dark blue and orange stripes, subdials and hands AND the Gulf logo).

I guess both the dark blue and the Zenith Blue are valid. The thing is I'm a fan of racing, not oil companies, so it's the iconic and unique Zenith Blue of the cars that is meaningful to me, rather than the Gulf Oil corporate colours 😀

Edit ~ And I agree, the CW2118 stands alone in style, it's gorgeous and its colour combination works perfectly. It's a sports watch that is also a dress watch (IMO).

That one is also really nice plus it has the correct logo not faking to be a Heuer like all recent Monacos 😀

Crazy! I tried to get one in Aus, but was told they weren't sending any to Australia. Now a watch trader in Perth has expressions of interest for one over AU $17,000!

A person is at liberty to sell their stuff at any time and for whatever they want. But seeing this makes me sad. This watch could be in the hands of someone who WANTS to own it, and keep it, and wear it. Not in the hands of a someone who wants to double his money right away. This is the reality of the online/Ebay world we live in, and happens with all desirable and limited goods, I know. But it still annoys me. It could have belonged to someone on this forum, where it would have been a cherished possession, as it is with Hubert.

When people buy up limited stock to deliberately prevent others from having it unless they are willing to pay a MASSIVE premium, it's a real shame. To list it the day after receiving it for double the RRP is so blatant, what a swell individual. And if it doesn't sell, it'll just sit in its box being unappreciated. :-(
