My memory is bad but is this not a bit harsch? Is it that common that all the good pieces are limited and the worse versions go into regular production?

Yes totally, I'm just exaggerating as usual. 😉
It just feels that way and honestly if the limited editions weren't the most desirable designs what would be the point?

Thats a very good point! In this case I think they actually did what limited editions are "supposed" to do. Deliever something exclusive in true limited numbers leaving people lusting for more. Only thing missing is a proper numbering on the caseback

As always...

You know, watching youtube videos and the like, it seems like the whole watch industry is built on never giving people quite what they want. The number of times that I've heard a youtube watch guru say something like 'everybody wants this, but Rolex / Patek / AP know that and they won't make it'... I guess the whole idea is to keep the people searching for perfect and keep the money flowing

Isnt the blue stripe on the car211r paying tribute to the blue stripe on the racing suit instead of the car? So not taken out of the air from nothing I mean
No, the racing suit has a dark blue blue stripe. The stripe on CAW211R is light blue, but the wrong shade, not Gulf Blue. (The original "white dial" Monaco Gulf was an homage to the racing suit.)

I still can't get passed the clash of the red and orange detailing. Those two colours just don't work together, IMO.
Agree. The use of orange (vs red) on my C12 Monaco Gulf Grey is a detail I prefer over the CAW211R version. Plus the stripe on my C12 is the correct shade of Gulf Blue. Having said that, I'd take the Blue dial of the 1st Victory over the Grey starburst dial (or the R's blue dial) any day!

Aaah yes my bad, it must have been the background dark metallicy blue that is an homage to the racing suit stripe.

Then where in the name of f**k did they find the blue stripe on the 211r 🤬

Yes. For me it all came down to the colours. I wanted to buy the the regular Gulf edition, and was hugely disappointed when I saw the colours were wrong. The 1st win had the right colours, and they only made 50 of them. <Sigh>

If they're specifically making a heritage motorsport watch, then they have to get these details correct, especially for this kind of money. It's paint FFS, how hard can it be?! Otherwise there is no point. Let's make a heritage-inspired Lotus watch, but we won't make it British Racing Green, we'll make it Seafoam Green instead... That'll hit the spot with the target demographic, right?!
I feel exactly the same. I just can't go for the normal C11 Gulf knowing that the "correct" version exists with the 1st Victory. So I'm holding out for the next Gulf model, which I hope will be a winner.

I'd also like to see TH come up with an exciting new design for the next Monaco Gulf, rather than yet another evolution of the same design theme.

Well that would be nice.... but I wouldn't hold your breath.
