Late last year I mentioned that the general release of the Gulf Monaco (ref. CAW211R) would get a new reference number to distinguish the watch from the US-only availability in 2017. I was surprised when the watch was launched with exactly the same reference.

    Now we finally see CAW211T

It's a limited edition of only 50 watches with the lighter blue stripe, a black (instead of blue) strap and a new caseback

Hard to tell from a picture but the blue dial seems a bit lighter than the standard gulf edition. Although vintage gulf blue I don’t think the colour combo works as well as the unlimited edition. Why not go gulf blue and orange all the way?

Depending on the picture, the end result does not appear to be as satisfying as last year's GULF model (CAW211R).

Aside from the lighter GULF Blue on the stripes, from what I can tell from some of the article's pictures, the base-dial on this new one appears to be brighter, one may think to resemble the one found on the regular production CAW221P (full blue) McQueen Monaco.

Whereas the base-dial on last year's GULF model seems like a darker metallic starburst blue.

In the end, I can't really tell from the pictures found on the Monochrome article, as there is too much variance among them. As this side-by-side shows, some have deep rich colors, while others look washed-out. Makes me wonder if they were taken from two different prototypes? Or if they Photoshopped it to be too rich?

The red/orange clash still doesn't work!

Mr Dempsey appears to be wearing a blue strap. Nice watch, not a great one though. Bound to sell out quickly, still available now... I should probably wait for next year’s 50th anniversary model (if any and reasonably priced). How do you improve the standard Mcqueen?

Yes, Patrick Dempsey is wearing last year's model. I ordered the new one a few hours ago, but depending on the color tones, I may return it.

That box!!! OK, the box and exclusivity of the "50th" might make the price difference for the "T" worth it over the "R". And of course TAG Heuer finally got the blue stripe color correct, as it should have been on last year's model.

Yes sir. It is the correct Zenith Blue of the Gulf Racing team and not the darker blue of the Gulf Oil company. The "wrong" colour blue on the previous Monaco Gulf is the only reason I've been unsure about buying one. I worry that it would annoy me every time I look at the face. THIS is the watch I have been waiting for. I wonder if I can possibly get one.

Pre orders all gone now I think

I'm becoming more and more interested in a Monaco but not a gulf one. Although i like it as a general piece of aesthetics, A plainer face design would be more likely to get worn by me

I had one in my cart a few hours ago but ultimately passed. Even my wife said I should get one... stranger things. It's gonna be the (standard) Mcqueen or the 2019 anniversary edition. If David doesn't drain my budget with another spectacular LE..

I quite like the look of the caw211b. It will be interesting to see what 2019 brings for monaco though!

Yet another limited edition, undistinguishable from the regular production model - much less the previous one
