It appears to be a hideous sports watch. No offense as taste is entirely subjective but the same people (with significant disposable income) who buy this have season's tickets, belts, bumper stickers, sweat shirts, the wife's underwear, beer glasses, and what not with "THE PATRIOTS" logo.

I just wish society followed and celebrated humanitarians, researchers, care givers, and honest car mechanics the same way they do sports celebrities. I think we would live in a better world if they did.

(Note to self - don't talk like this in a public forum)

I understand what you mean. From my perspective, I don't care about Brady and who he is- only about whether the end results in a good looking watch. If the 12 was on the back, or maybe use a smaller 12 to replace the existing 12 o'clock hour marker, then I'd be in for this, irrespective of whose name was on the back.

This could be a very interesting discussion. If one is able to compartmentalize any influence vis-a-vis ones own triggers of attraction to the aesthetics of a watch dial then yes, a celebrity watch could be a purchase target. Alas, I have not yet evolved to that state—shi# maybe that's what has been holding me back...... ; - ) all of these years.

The Tudor Tiger is a watch that I like(d) but there is now a besmirched connection with that timepiece.

It will be very hard to keep watch or watch company to be associate with someone or anyone.

Imagine this: your worst enemy buy the same watch as you just to annoy you.

But i totally understand the sentiment. I like the heuer01 45mm MU version but i am not fans of MU. I would probably buy it if it is the similar design with AC Milan logo.

Btw on completely different matter, tudor north flag is a cool watch. It dont advertise as much but i just realized it so stand out.

I agree. It is a clean design. The strap options are good too.

It was the power reserve that attracted me to the watch along with the colour scheme and design. For the time being though, I have scratched the power reserve itch with my Seiko Presage Platinum:

How does it wear? I am tempted by one of those, and particularly like the chronograph version with urichi dial.

Very nicely. The strap is nice and soft so no breaking in required. The dial, although no enamelled, is a masterpiece and I particularly love the font used for the numerals and the flash of red at 12, as per the original Seiko Laurel.

How about the Tudor Advisor? I would love to have a mechanical alarm watch.

That's another I like, in particular the cognac coloured dial:

Love it or leave it – brand ambassadors aren't for everyone – but this timepiece is sure to be a touchdown with Brady fans.

And that, kids, was the day that Hodinkee truly jumped the shark. 📖

Why is that? Do you think that the article is too fawning? Should the launch not have been covered at all?

I'm very interested in the small (but growing) negative view on Hodinkee, because I am firmly of the view that what they do is excellent and miles ahead of their US rivals- both as a business model and in terms of quality of content. Still, can't deny that there's a growing negativity...

I was just adding the reference to @abrod520's comment for those who may not be familiar with the term. The question should really be addressed to him. 😀

I think it is lots of little things that individually one doesn't really notice but, after a while, they culminate in a growing dislike of Hodinkee and what they are doing.

Yes, I wasn't meaning it was your question, I was just trying to reply to the last message in the thread. 😉

When we sit down at Time+Tide and talk through which other watch businesses we admire, Hodinkee are always towards the top of the list. I guess as you transition from a pure editorial/ one-man show into a highly commercial company, these things do happen.

One of the things I think they do best is the discipline of not over-commercialising. They could have sold 500 Skippers, but they hold back to 125 to keep the market wanting more. Sucks if you missed out, but it shows to me a vision on the long-term positioning of the company

@Calibre11 I'm actually fairly neutral on Hodinkee - they have their place, even if it's not where they started. Things evolve.

However, a line like the one I quoted above - "sure to be a touchdown with Tom Brady fans" - is lazy, cliche, and overused. It's a sign of the sometimes completely-phoned-in "work" they do.

There are some parallels to TAG Heuer there, too, but not 100%.

...

I'd apologize for derailing the conversation in this thread, but then each post about Hodinkee pushes the photos of that ghastly watch further out of sight.

Love it! It's not the same I'm sa.e ol'. And yes, I might roll my eyes if there was a Peyton Manning watch.
