Is the Telemeter-esque high dome crystal and apparent dial distortion not putting you off just a little? I know it's one of your nigggles with that particular retro Carrera.
That was a bit of a concern at the very beginning, but I am relieved that the dome on the new Autavia is nothing as pronounced as the "glassbox" found on the Telemeter.

But more importantly, the new Autavia's dial does not have the edge-indentation found on the Telemeter, which when combined with the glassbox dome's edge, robs the dial additional millimeters to give the illusion of even a smaller size. The Telemeter case is already small, there was no need for the additional visual trickery.

I am likely to buy the new Autavia. However, I don't understand why the bezel is so large. If you compare the bezel with that of the 2446 Mk III that was originally selected during the Autavia Cup selection process, it is clear that the new bezel and the arabic hour numbers are disproportionately large.

Below I'm showing:
(left) Photo of the 2017 Autavia (42mm)
(center) CAD image of 2017 Autavia
(right) CAD image (?) of the Autavia 2446 Mk III (40mm, I believe)

Good side-by-side comparison ^ @calibre11user

The center 'CAD image' lugs seem to diminish any curvature, which helps balance-out the overall proportions. Let's hope that in-the-metal, the production model's lugs don't look as 'curved' as they do in these latest pictures.

EDIT: Here are other Instagram pictures that based on the angle, show a less pronounced curvature:

Would it have been better to be closer to the original? Sure without a doubt. Nonetheless, overall it is a great modern reinterpretation that I am sure will be very successful.

First of all, great article as always.

Well i like it, although yes, the diameter could be little bit smaller. But that just personal preference. Compare to the size of nowadays watch, it is still "normal".

Now it begin the hard time of choosing between bracelet or strap...and also saving up some money.

Cheers

The bezel width and text font size seems to be a JCB thing because the Heuer 01s suffer the same affliction, particularly the 43mm version. The Autavia has never appealed to me so I'm not going to both about it but it looks as though the new TAG Heuer has nothing for me and the only references I still wish to add to my collection are the all black Calibre 36 Carerra, the white and blue Calibre 17 and the black dialled gulf Monaco.

http://www.steffans.co.uk/tag-heuer-mens-autavia-02-chronograph-stainless-steel-watch.html

Available via Steffans in the UK on pre-order with factory beads of rice classic bracelet £4k.

They are offering 0% interest free - so £400 deposit down / £150/month for 2 years

However, there is a discount code for 10% off card / Paypal purchase : FB102016

Tempted at £3600...?

A couple of questions worth asking before you put down your money...are these guys Authorised Dealers? They don't (clearly) say that they are, which often means they're not. They say that the watch comes with "a" two year warranty, but who knows if that is a TAG Heuer factory warranty

There are stories of grey dealers advertising watches that they don't have so that they can then take a fistful of orders to an AD to make sure that dealer gets enough stock to let a few slip out to the grey dealer...I don't know if that is happening here, other than I can tell you that the watch will not be available in March.

Again, I don't know these guys in particular, just saying that I'd be cautious

Esquire UK has outed the Autavia in a black leather bracelet. However, given the TAG Heuer stamp on the inner clip, this may be a pre-release variant.

Hey i thought they didnt put any TAG on it (not that i am against putting TAG on it anyway), even on the machine.

But i guess they put it on the buckle then. (Again, not that i mind)

As I mentioned that on my post, this is just a placeholder; don't pay any attention to that. The interesting thing is that a black leather bracelet could be one of the options.

Ah ! Sorry i didnt read carefully. Hehehe.

Black leather could be a good option. I will need to see one in steel to decide between brown or black or bracelet.

I am almost but not entirely sold on the new Autavia.
Things that could go against it are the limited edition version, or god forbids, a new non-mutant Carrera.

Absolutely agree. It's the "second-tier" press releases at Baselworld which may be the most interesting.

so no tang buckle .I spoke to the AD said its coming with a deployment. that sucks
I don't recall anyone confirming that the tan buckle will not be an option. Maybe David @Calibre11 can get some clarification.

With the plethora of aftermarket crafters, you can have a custom strap made to your exact taste and size and less than an OEM standard one.

What I've been told is that there will only be two references at launch- the same black dial watch you see here with either bracelet or the camel/ tan strap. I'd heard that the black strap was originally planned, but wasn't going to be an option.

The tan strap uses a tang buckle

However, since then we've seen a couple of shots of the watch on the black strap- both from the UK.

So in summary.....looks like we'll have to wait until March!
