Hubert. Very good on that thread! It's available on Apple TV in the U.S. and well worth seeing.
Will need to check it out. Thanks!

I don't care about Gulf Racing but I bought the watch anyway.
The Gulf logo and the colors and proportions of the graphic elements used on the dial, and the Monaco itself, makes this a period watch that reminds me of an era that I much prefer to the way things are now. I'm a "car guy" so tasteful designs such as these get my attention.

The watch will push buttons with some people who will spend the cash. I had two guys at cars and coffee ask me about it yesterday. It's the first time in years of attendance that anyone ever noticed what watch I was wearing.

I also have gotten way more comments on my Monaco Gulf Grey than any of my other watches, which includes Omega, Breitling, and Rolex.

Are we on the same page here on the watch that getting less comment when we wear it is breitling ?

Where i am, almost no people will notice your breitling. I heard its different in europe where breitling is very well known.

In Europe I don't think anyone pays much attention to a Breitling in my opinion, even though the brand is well known.

So I finally got to see the 50th Anniversary Gulf Racing Monaco in person, at local Macy's department store of all places. It's everything I thought the watch would be, a very nice piece indeed. A few details I thought I'd mention:
- the red hands and markers don't bother me. They look subtle in person, it's not something I notice unless I stare
- the Gulf logo is smaller compared to the Gulf logo on my Gulf Grey
- the blue stripe is darker, compared to the Gulf Grey, and is not as accurate in color compared to the duck egg blue used on the racing cars and the blue on the Gulf Grey.

I love the look of the watch. However, I found that the overall look was just too similar to my Gulf Grey. I don't think I'll be getting the 50th now, just too hard to justify as I don't have deep pockets.

Attached pic of my Grey just for fun! 😀

I think you are doing the right thing; if I have had the previous Gulf Edition/s, it would have been difficult to justify it for me too. Thanks for sharing the story. Cheers!

I love this video featuring a GT40 and the new Monaco Gulf!

(Guess, it needs to be watched off of YouTube.)

Love the video. I think that car is a Superformance MK1. Would love to have one of those but they are stupid money!

A quick post updating the 2018 edition of the watch, featuring Hubert's fantastic photos

https://www.calibre11.com/tag-heuer-monaco-calibre-11-gulf-edition-caw211r/

It's funny how at first we thought this was an "Internet & US only" exclusive, which it was for maybe 2-3 months. Then a "US only exclusive", but available at retail stores (not internet only), again for a few months. Now it's a global watch that anyone can buy and it does't have an exact limited production number.

It's arguably the best looking of all the Gulf editions, but also one that's least limited in production.

I don't think anything has changed. Here is what I wrote 5 months ago:

https://www.calibre11.com/up-close-with-the-heuer-monaco-calibre-11-special-editions/

"The 2017 Gulf Monaco was launched in September, and for the first two weeks was only available via the TAG Heuer USA online store, before going on sale across the US from 15 September with a price of US$5,900.

The good news for those of us not in the US is that the Gulf Monaco will go on sale globally from March 2018

I'm referring to the early days in this thread, not your article. If you look at page 3, apparently even you thought this was a US only watch - according to Hubert. LOL

'David indicated on the other thread that:
"This is a US-only edition given the restrictions on the licensing of the Gulf logo and brand."'

I believe by the time David wrote the article, the expansion was confirmed. Originally the word was this was going to be a "US exclusive". The first whisper of the expansion, as far as I can tell, was on September 21, 2017.
