I was about to post this too.

Anybody else notice that the first car image referencing McQueen's LeMans incorrectly has a Gulf Ford GT40 instead of the Porsche 917?

Not really, but I did notice that the blue on the 50th Anniversary is way too dark to be considered 'Gulf' blue...

Love this one!
Great photo and an even better watch! Hopefully I will be able to save up for a Monaco soon! And when that happens, it's the very hard choice to decide between the Gulf and Calibre11!😉

Both the "original" McQueen Monaco, or the Gulf edition are awesome choices. Can't go wrong with either one of them! 👍

Indeed they are! Gulf pops out a bit more on your wrist, a nice touch of colour. Calibre11 is a true legend but slightly more conservative on the wrist (if a Monaco ever can be described as "conservative"😁)

Very cool TAG Heuer Instagram post. But the sound just seems wrong. It's that of a screaming F1 car, while I feel the roar of a Ford GT40 or Porsche 917 would have been much more fitting.

I also saw this on G+. I suspect the sound was taken from a stock photography/sound archive. Doubt they'd have one from a GT40 or a 917. 😉

With the effort involved in making that, I don't think it would've been hard to source a proper sound clip of a GT40 or 917. I'm sure Gulf Oil Racing has one from their sound archives they could happily lend.

I like the mcqueen LE or caw211p (almost as much as the cs2110) but what bothers me about all heritage monaco's is the case design; a separate case front from the sides with a division line clearly visible. Not a 'monocase' like the 1133, which is so iconic. Even recent quartz Monaco's have a monocase (albeit a different case design). I simply don't understand.

I love this place, learn new things all the time. I had no idea the cases are different in construction between the current Monacos

The 10 Most Iconic Chronographs You Can Buy!
  • TAG HEUER MONACO GULF 2018 LIMITED EDITION
Chronographs are a long tradition at TAG Heuer and several of its stopwatches occupy top spots in the list of iconic chronographs, in particular, models associated with the golden age of motor racing, such as the Carrera or the Autavia. Also born in this period (1969), the Monaco is, without a doubt, the most celebrated square chronograph. It was equipped with the innovative calibre 11 automatic movement and immortalised on the wrist of Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans. His car bore the Gulf colours, which is one of the reasons why we have a weakness for the cool vintage racing flair of this limited edition.

Quick facts: 39mm x 39mm steel case – 100m water-resistance – Calibre 11 automatic movement with hours, minutes, seconds, date and chronograph – perforated calfskin strap with folding buckle.

It's a cool watch without question!! I'm not overly fond of reissues as they seem contrived and really demand higher price than should be paid imho. It would be nice to own one however.
