I’ve got to be honest and say all of the reissues from Tag are relatively reasonably priced. The Autavia as an example with the vertical clutch in-house Calibre 02 movement could be considered great value for money. I was surprised the other day that the boutique was offering the Gulf racing Monaco CAW211R cheaper than the standard Steve McQueen model.
Not totally surprised; many people don't like advertising for companies unless it's their job. Steve McQueen's glory is far in the past. Many are likely unaware of the watches history I'm certain.
I saw the drop in the Gulf price too. Perhaps the 50th anniversary win LE affected sales. It was essentially the same but better. IMO the 50th win LE was what the regular Gulf should have been like.
I just picked up one of these last week while we on a trip to Alaska. The store was down to the last two weeks of business before packing everything up and shipping it back to St Maartens and I feel like I got a pretty fair deal. Anyway... From the article: "The leather strap is another solid win for the Monaco Gulf. TAG Heuer opted for a deep blue perforated calf, to match the dial base, highlighted with just the right shade of orange stitch and lining to help it live up to the dial. I would have been interested to see a gulf blue strap, but I suspect that might be a shade too outré, even for the extroverted types into this watch." I guess I'm kind of extra-extroverted. I've already touched base with Jeanna at Stone Creek Straps about making a rally strap with the lighter blue as the base color. Actually, I asked about orange as a base color also. lol I'll stop by her shop in a week or two and look at her stock to select "something".
Not custom no. I bought it from Clockwork Synergy: https://www.clockworksynergy.com/shop/oem/tag-heuer/orange-croco-leather-watch-strap-tag-heuer/.
Great video of the Gulf Monaco, Bruce's videos always give great detailed shots and showcase how good rhe watches actually look
