The thing about the Daytonas is their value retention and even growth. Frankly my current favorite chronograph to wear is my Monaco. I love the square shape, history, and legibility of my black dialed one. Reading the Daytona in low light situations can be troublesome. Getting a new Monaco at the right price makes it worth it.

Well this sucks... the Kirium has gained ten minutes in less than twelve hours... thankfully the seller has been responsive and pro-active, so the watch is going back tomorrow. 🤔

Sorry, not quite sure I follow? Are you suggesting a Rolex Cosmograph Dayton is poor value? Sorry I’m new to all this so no idea about the savvy inveatmwnts. I tend to buy what I like the look of.

Absolutely not suggesting it is a poor value, quite the opposite. They appreciate likely more than any other watch at that price point. Most watches instantly lose value when purchased. Daytonas when purchase new, at MSRP, instantly gain on the order of $4 to 6K. So points about buying another watch that's cheaper as a better choice needs to be held up to the value standard of the Daytona. On the other hand, it was a several year hunt for me to get a Daytona and I had to pay over MSRP but the value is still about $3-4K above what I paid. There are things about the Daytona I'm not fond of. The main thing is the lack of date function. That is one of the reasons I like the Monaco so much. The Daytona is a relatively small watch (40mm) which also wears small. This is good for my wrist size but for many it is too small. That being said, the hunt and acquisition took work and it is in my collection, fwiw.

Thanks for the clarification. Very helpful. And that’s reassuring. Daytona is the about the only Rolex style I actually like (the look of), so good to know not likely to be a purchase of total folly. My 2nd would be a submariner. The rest of the range I could easily live wothout. Just need to save now and choose a design! I love the white gold one with the rubber strap.

PS: agree on regards the Monaco. It is my favourite design of all. Love mine.

Did somebody mention a black subdial Daytona but didn't want to pay for the white gold model? 😀

Very Nice imagwai! I saw the black bay chronograph at an AD last week, also very very nice. But after my divers and chronographs I should def look into dress watches more. Would an explorer 2 on a strap qualify? 🙄

Stretching it a bit isn't it? 😀
I've got my eye on this one at the moment but haven't pulled the trigger:

My sisters and I bought our dad a Visodate for his birthday. I really like it on his wrist, a bit jealous now.

My Jack Heuer 85th arrived at the US LVMH Service Center last week and I received an email message from them saying that repairs are about to begin.

Wow, great picture, really makes the Omega look dull in comparison to that beauty 👍

Man are you lucky. My Siffert LE is about to enter its fourth month in Switzerland with zero status updates. I really really want to like what TAG is doing, and some of the watches look nice, but I won't be fooled into buying one again.

Just as a matter of reference, getting a Daytona these days can be painful at ADs unless ones buying a lot of products or spending a lot of money on other things. The Daytona wait lists are five years long if they'll even accept you for the wait list. On the gray market expect to pay way over MSRP typically now $20K for the Daytona with the white dial demanding a bit more than the black. That said, selling the Daytona should that ever become needed is pretty easy.

Currently there is a shortage on most of the Rolex professional models with almost all of them being hard to get. For Rolex collectors it's causing many to be content with their collections or to look elsewhere such as other brands. Rolex has intentionally throttled back their distribution of the professional line leaving many of their retailers with empty display cases with the exception of precious metal models, two tone models, and more dressy models such as the Just Dates, Oyster Perpetuals, Air Kings, Day Dates, etc. The less sought after professional models such as the Milgauss, Yachtmaster, and Explorer seem to be readily available as well.

Since Rolex is a non-profit they don't pay taxes. They aren't motivated by profit like the rest of the industry. They are part of the Wilsdorf Foundation. The reduced output is aimed at controlling the gray market from what's been said.

All useful info. Thank you. I’ll have to enquire. I guess 5 years gives me plenty of time to save to pay the balance on “the one I really want” of the wait (in UK), is that long. Price is sadly even higher in the UK. I might snap up a JH85 as a stopgap. That is certainly growing on me as ai’ve beennlooking at alternatives of that ill (i.e more afordable than the Datytona lol).

They should be providing updates to you. Did you send it to them directly or through a dealer? I filled out a repair request on line and sent it to the Service Center in New Jersey. It arrived there on September 6, they acknowledged receipt on September 8, described the scope of repairs to be done on September 9 and the latest message today stating they going to begin the repairs. I’ll let you know how it progresses.

It used to be that in the UK it was harder to buy Rolex watches. Now I'm pretty certain the problem is world wide.
