I'm starting to hanker after a PVD Monza... Does anyone own one and any thoughts to share on it?

To all the black PVD Monza owners - how well does it hold up in terms of scratches!. I have the chance to pick one up in the next few weeks. It has been on my radar for a while, but only concerns is the durability of the finish on the case. Is it an issue?

My Carrera Calibre 36 Racing is fine, but then I am careful with it.

I try to be very careful too. But I have never owned a PVD watch, all mine are SS, 2Tone or Ceramic to date. In all brands. So it'll be interesting to see a PVD one. Thanks for the feedback.

I should expand and say that I have knocked it occasionally, not hard, and it has not suffered any permanent damage to the coating.

I'll quote DC's article on the Heuer Monza (Re-edition), if this might help 馃榾 I believe it is not really PVD and said to be more durable. HTH!

"The Monza offers the same square-yet-round cushion case design of the 2000 Monza, a favourite of TAG Heuer collectors. The 42mm case is made from Grade 5 titanium and features alternate brushed (sides of the case) and polished (top of the case) finishes.

To achieve the blackened look, the Monza has a titanium-carbide coating, a world away from the PVD-applied coating offered on the 1970s Monza, which more often than not was applied to a brass case. Many people don鈥檛 know that the resistance of the black coating to scratches and general wear is more down to the hardness of the case than the hardness of the coating- which is why the soft Brass case of the 1970s often have worn poorly."

Great post! Though I wish in one way I鈥檇 not read it. The pleasant surprise of the red cushion will not be such when I pick up mine later this month

Anyone know how many they actually made? I read 2000 to 2500 in the comments of the original Cal11 review though note the number in the back of yours is in the 3500s.

mine is still fine until now. I've let someone else changed straps for me and i also wear it while doing light outdoor activities, etc.

The difference is that, and this is just my personal opinion, if you scratch steel watch somehow it become battle scar, but if you scratch PVD watch somehow, it just a bad looking unfortunate scar.

All i can say that Monza is not a scratch magnet.

Good for you. I have to say though, that is a perfect example of everything that was wrong and bad about TAG Heuer back in those days.

Enjoy it though 馃憤
