Only in name I would say, remove the Black Bay from the GMT, Pro, Ranger & Chronos and you have a new watch (much like Rolex and their GMT, Explorer's, Daytonas all use the oyster case but pretty much the same watch)
I keep reading this but I still can't grasp what you mean, sorry. The GMT and BB Chronos are called BBs, but the other two aren't.... Plus the Ranger is dull as hell, but that's beside the point. 😒
Yeah I get that, although it mostly seems to be less objective and more.... how can I put this. It's like people who have been a fan of a band for a long time but really only like the old stuff. Why can't they do more songs that sound like they did 30 years ago? Like constantly saying that they should make watches smaller even though watch CEOs have come straight out and said there is no mass market desire for smaller watches.
Black Bay Pro I believe, wrong on the Ranger (my bad) is actually nice in the flesh more then renders.
Forgot to add Pelagos also.
So 2 lines which aren't BB, and doing extremely well. But I do get that they should drop the BB from the other lines apart from the original BB, as it gets confusing and repetitive, but as I pointed to Rolex and their branding of models, that would work for Tudor.
End consumers sometimes like familiarity (maybe why Apple peeps buy more Apple, & Samsung peeps with Samsung) Maybe Tag looses out by not having a clear direction of the brand, its often been said how many products they have with each sub model.
Agreed tudor should have a think about model names. Calling every watch (bar a couple) a black bay is in many ways opening themselves up for the one trick pony comments such as the above despite Most of the watches actually being quite different (save the moniker).
I don’t quite know why they’d call the black bay pro that name as it feels kinda stupid to me - the watch is good however. That said, they may be too far gone with it now to change.
in respect of TAG, I actually think they have the different model lines segregated quite well. I understand the point about having too many models, but that criticism has been levelled at omega for a long time. As a punter, I’d rather have more choice at the end of the day.
and yes, the ranger is much better in the flesh. It looks terrible on the renders and doesn’t photo particularly well, but looks surprisingly good on the wrist in light outside the AD.
Regarding Tudor, the majority of their watches that are popular are dive watches, regardless of whether they're called Black Bay or Pelagos or something else. Even the BB Chrono kinda falls into the dive watch category. TAG Heuer is strong in motorsports, which is why many of us are here. In this space, Tudor only has their heritage Monte Carlo, they also don't have much to cover Aviation either. Hence TAG Heuer has an overall line up with broader appeal. So it's no surprise that TAG should be favored over Tudor by many on this forum.
However when comparing Tudor to the Aquaracer line up, that's where TAG falls behind IMHO. Looks can be subjective, but the suspect SW200 based Cal 5 used by TAG is its weakest point.
1. Tag Heuer
2. Montblanc
3. Hublot
Honorable mentions: Louis Vuitton, Movado, Alpina, Frederique Constant, Breitling
(All smartwatches, of course)
Another Hublot fan huh, NICE. I am recruiting members to my fanclub Hublot Boyz. We share Hublot photos regularly and spurt over Hublot sexiness. I am the only member yet.
