What’s up with Tag? Is HEUER dead?

I’m glad TAG Heuer holds into TOP10 market share. You don’t have to be Number1 all the time 😉

Tudor and Breitling might be moving up the list. They’re making a lot of noise. My TH AD will start selling Tudor. They’re in the next town from the Rolex AD which also sells Tudor. Unheard of in the land of Rolex.

Where did you pull this from?

Omega is the world's 2nd most recognizable watch brand in the world with approximately 70% worldwide brand recognition and is only second to Rolex in terms of brand recall.

Perhaps branding was the wrong word...
Only speaking about the UK. Just looking at it from the non watch persons perspective. There are TH boutiques popping up all over the place. I've been in a shopping centre and seen two youngish girls walk past the TH boutique and point and go 'Oooh look a TAG Heuer shop'...
Now I'm sure you don't think youngish girls having that reaction is important, but I bet Frédéric does.
Young people.... and I am not remotely young... are clearly key to success. They need to capture the young before they turn into watch snobs and will only wear Rolex and Patek.

Or they could pay a bazillion pounds to get the next James Bond to wear a TAG Heuer (again). Can't wait for that awkward scene... "Is that an Omega?". "No its a TAG Heuer Autavia Flyback Chronograph, see how easily it slips under my pristinely ironed cuff."

This is exactly why they are big on the Connected. Get them in young with Tech and they may stick to the brand and buy a mechanical watch

It's not for me, but yes... I bet more young people are aware of the Connected than the Speedmaster.

Maybe it's a good move as availability for Rolex and Omega to an extent is getting ridiculous.

Which Omegas are hard to get? Unless you're trying to get a 321 Speedmaster or Snoopy, you'd only have to wait maybe a month or two for certain models. Most are available in Boutiques and ADs within a month or so of announcement though.

Don't sleep on IWC, either. Really good stuff coming out and I'll bet it gets even better.

They were the ones I was thinking also. But I did have to wait a little while for the Racing Speedy. About 4 weeks. From an AD though not Boutique.

Great discussion here…

I hear some of this same type of discussion across many forums.

Seiko forums complaining of prices moving up but features being dropped, poor qc, when will they bring the Pogue back.

Omega forum complaints about helium escape valves, chunky cases, when will they reissue og seamaster with sword hands, why sooo many special editions.

Rolex forums why did they go bigger on the sub, when will they make a coke gmt, why no real update on Explorer 2, why cant I get a watch, your watch ain’t shit if it doesn’t go up in value.

Us watch folks are not the main market for watch companies, they sell what sells and sometimes throw us a nostalgic bone. I am happy and am patient when they do. When we realise this we will be much happier. If we like how they did it back in the day, buy vintage. If you want a new vintage style watch see Doxa, Nivada Grenchen, Tourneq Rayville, Aquastar and the like that are in that nostalgia market.

I like Tag Heuer for the sheer variety and value the brand offers through its history and current offerings. I don’t like everything but I do like a lot of different watches over their history and will weigh my options when picking new or vintage. I look forward to seeing where they take the brand and what comes next. My two cents.

This from the Radley Handbag forum...

"All the new designs are boring. I used to buy loads of bags all with dogs on them, now they are just plain, boring brown shit. What are the new designers doing? We could design better bags than these clowns. Sure they still make some purses with dogs on, but we want bags. And bright colours too, none of this drab brown crap. And the straps are too narrow, and the stitching is too white. I bought a passport holder last year and it's already looking grubby. Why can't we have some of the designs we had ten years ago????"

Was this when it was new? Or perhaps during Covid last winter when the supply issues were at their worst?

Rolex stubborn refusal to ever make anything different seems only to serve them as a strength, which I get - if you're only interested in them as investments. But as an 'enthusiast' how can anyone be immersed in Rolex. Unless you have a thing for red text and green bezels.
Maybe because the limited models and variations they do make, they do very well?
I think Rolex has been super innovative lately compared to the past 20 years. Remember the original Kermit received mixed reactions as it was considered too playful for the sub. That sentiment has changed. The colourful Rolexes are the most collectible of all.
The current line-up with new designs and movements is very compelling. I know you can't exactly get your hands on the most interesting ones but these are building the revamped Rolex image.
Rolex entry level dress watch is the OP:

and here we have TAG Heuers new dress Carreras:

See... here's what I don't get. You show me those pictures and I look at them and think, which ones are cheap and tacky and which ones look elegant and refined.

So if TAG does something like that it's tacky, but if Rolex does it, somehow it's playful?

Anybody paying £20,000 for that over a Heuer O2T plus change wants their head looking at.

Honestly I think those Rolex look awful.

😁 😁
They're actually really nice. In the metal there's no comparison. I would love to have a yellow or red OP 🙄 😉
List price is a little over 5k I believe so it's still ok. You might have to wait a while.
The top 3 are approx the same colours as the Carreras so you can have your choice of refined watches at Rolex as well.
