Where did you pull this from?
Omega is the world's 2nd most recognizable watch brand in the world with approximately 70% worldwide brand recognition and is only second to Rolex in terms of brand recall.
Perhaps branding was the wrong word...
Only speaking about the UK. Just looking at it from the non watch persons perspective. There are TH boutiques popping up all over the place. I've been in a shopping centre and seen two youngish girls walk past the TH boutique and point and go 'Oooh look a TAG Heuer shop'...
Now I'm sure you don't think youngish girls having that reaction is important, but I bet Frédéric does.
Young people.... and I am not remotely young... are clearly key to success. They need to capture the young before they turn into watch snobs and will only wear Rolex and Patek.
Maybe it's a good move as availability for Rolex and Omega to an extent is getting ridiculous.
Which Omegas are hard to get? Unless you're trying to get a 321 Speedmaster or Snoopy, you'd only have to wait maybe a month or two for certain models. Most are available in Boutiques and ADs within a month or so of announcement though.
Great discussion here…
I hear some of this same type of discussion across many forums.
Seiko forums complaining of prices moving up but features being dropped, poor qc, when will they bring the Pogue back.
Omega forum complaints about helium escape valves, chunky cases, when will they reissue og seamaster with sword hands, why sooo many special editions.
Rolex forums why did they go bigger on the sub, when will they make a coke gmt, why no real update on Explorer 2, why cant I get a watch, your watch ain’t shit if it doesn’t go up in value.
Us watch folks are not the main market for watch companies, they sell what sells and sometimes throw us a nostalgic bone. I am happy and am patient when they do. When we realise this we will be much happier. If we like how they did it back in the day, buy vintage. If you want a new vintage style watch see Doxa, Nivada Grenchen, Tourneq Rayville, Aquastar and the like that are in that nostalgia market.
I like Tag Heuer for the sheer variety and value the brand offers through its history and current offerings. I don’t like everything but I do like a lot of different watches over their history and will weigh my options when picking new or vintage. I look forward to seeing where they take the brand and what comes next. My two cents.
Rolex stubborn refusal to ever make anything different seems only to serve them as a strength, which I get - if you're only interested in them as investments. But as an 'enthusiast' how can anyone be immersed in Rolex. Unless you have a thing for red text and green bezels.
