Cool photo. And a cool Cal.11 collection that would be… Also makes me realize how closely the design of the current Hamilton panda chronos (I always forget their name…) resembles that of their historic predecessors 😀

Did Buren actually commercialize chronos under their own brand name, back in the days?
Partnered with Hamilton for this one.

Looking for a CHRONOMATIC Cal. 11 myself. The Hamilton is at least affordable, perhaps a Breitling one day too. Sadly a Heuer will just never happen for me🙁

My Breitling from 1968.

I can also continue my beloved series of “It's not a vintage (TAG) Heuer, but…” 😁

Voici la Zodiac “844/Pro Monnin” Quartz from ca. 1990 (apparently Zodiac was part of TH back then?)

PS: It's currently for sale in France.

Nah, Heuer did make some watches for Zodiac but they weren't linked otherwise. In terms of Monnin, that case was widely available and we see tons of different brands using it

Then the seller is, let’s say “optimizing the truth” to get a little bit of that TAG Heuer “brand cachet” 😉

@abrod520 : Who else was using the Monnin case? From the top of my had, I’m only aware of CWC and (probably) Auricoste… (?)

Oh man like everybody.

Man the list goes on. The Heuer 844 is the only one known by the Monnin nickname, but G. Monnin made these watches for basically everyone at the time.

Interesting 👍

In my “defence” - all of the brands in the photos above seem to have gone the way of the dodo.

Yep, many were either department store brands or just cheap smaller brands one might find while on vacation and needing a dive watch.

Yeah, it's crazy. You could do a whole collection of just G. Monnin divers

That's dangerous talk!

Just following this subject up too-I would comment that the cases aren't actually made by Monnin, they were produced by case manufacturers M.R.P. SA but used by Georges Monnin. I don't believe many of these watches had anything to do with Monnin .....especially as many are Swiss production, not French. I suspect it was the Heuer connection that swung GM into the limelight (in recent years) and created a somewhat tenuous affiliation....

Oh interesting, I did not know that. So Heuer had divers made by G. Monnin, who in turn used a widely commercially available case, then?

Spot on. 👍 Here is a reasonable example of an early 844 listed on OF-

BREVET ( meaning Swiss patent) 503 305 (patent or model number) M.R.P SA and then co-signed G MONNIN FRANCE as you can see. Latterly we see these commonly signed Heuer-Leonidas. (on Heuer examples obviously!)

Makes one wonder why Heuer didn't just go and do that themselves, of course they were in a tough spot financially but I'd think it probably would've been cheaper to buy the wholesale parts themselves. Maybe a production capacity issue, do you think?
