Looks great...I have a few pieces with Chronodeco now...looking forward to the results. He does not have vintage parts though, Im I'm pretty anal about originality. Any suggestions on a source for parts? I have a few other pieces that need work.

They look great. Really wonderful.
Very happy for you given the time & effort to get these back to their best. What's the advice you'd have for others? Was it worth the effort, or would you buy a complete watch next time? Any tips on finding parts?

i really enjoyed the search, no matter how challenging and time-consuming it was. someone once told me vintage collecting is all about patience. was a good exercise for me. the hunt is almost better than the result, to me.

parts are really hard to find. there are a few well-known sources, but they dont want to sell their stock. ebay and chronotrader are the best sources. i ended up finding the tachy ring used online, and Craig fashioned the second and sub-hour hands from stock. for me, i am OK with that- a purist might not be. if i ever find those parts original, i might buy them.

The watches look great, fantastic pair! I know it's probably listed somewhere, but to put it all in one place, can you list what work you had done to each?

Yes, parts are a growing problem...so few left means that people are hoarding what they have left. TAG Heuer itself is getting low on many parts- most bezel inserts for the Autavia are long gone ;(

Congrats on a nice pair

Love it- a new arrival?

yes, found in a bin in a workshop where it has been sitting since 1979.

No-one has emptied the trash in 36 years? Thank goodness for that.

That's a brilliant find- congrats

LOL...parts bin. The sellers grand father passed away and the contents of his workshop were stored away. He repaired watches and there were several in there...still working on the remaining items. lots of parts too.

^ I am (im)patiently awaiting my time for one of these "found it lying at ____" experiences. Great pickup, was it priced accordingly, no knowing it was there?

Half of the fun is the hunt...I collect stories as much as I do watches. Most of my collection came from the original owner or their family, and I've accumulated some great stories. I try to get it all documented in the form of a letter with each watch. Maybe one day it will be a book. 😀

BTW- I paid a fair price. Anyone today can quickly research values online, and its not worth risking losing a piece to try and lowball the owner. Id rather offer them a fair price up front and get the piece in my collection.

I completely agree. I didn't know if it was one of those cases of the owner not knowing what they had and letting it go cheap.
