To this day, the phrase “Senna Sempre” (Senna always) captures the passion that Formula 1 fans feel for Senna’s life story and racing accomplishments. TAG Heuer’s newest advertising campaign, “Designed to Win”, is based on a phrase from Senna, expressing the brand’s approach to building watches for racing.
It is especially fitting to publish this “Definitive Guide” on April 29, as it was on this date in 1994 when TAG Heuer and Ayrton Senna agreed to collaborate on a Senna Limited Edition watch, with the watch being introduced in Spring 1995, after his death.
From 1984 through 1988, Senna wore five chronographs from Casio, Seiko and Longines. Starting in 1989, Senna became TAG Heuer’s golden boy, wearing the TAG Heuer patch on his racing suit and a series of TAG Heuer watches on his wrist.
Here’s the quick summary of the TAG Heuer watches worn by Senna 1989 through 1994 —
- 1989 (McLaren) – Super 2000 chronograph
- 1989 to 1992 (McLaren) – two versions of the S/el (sports elegance) analog-digital chronograph, cream and anthracite dials
- October 1991 (McLaren), championship-clinching race – Formula 1 chronograph
