Thanks @kappa_md , I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. Having to wait a few weeks must not be easy. BTW, I think I may have misunderstood where your watch is coming from. If not from Japan, where is it being sent from? Will it have the TAG Heuer croc strap or the Hodinkee leather straps?

It has croc strap also, same as the Silver 160 馃憤
It鈥檚 coming from the Land of the American Dream 馃槈

Did you buy it secondhand? Or did you find one in stock somewhere where they'll ship the croc strap out of the US?

So can we assume your friend got it "as new" via the aftermarket? The watch shows as "discontinued" on the US TH website, so it would be really surprising if there was yet another leftover available direct from TAG Heuer or Hodinkee.

That's probably why it's taking so long for you to get it. Your friend needs to take delivery, then ship it to you. Right?

Thank you sir @Anthony.R ! I have to apologize to you since my initial reaction when you sent sneak pix was a hard pass LOL 馃榿 I was thinking before if the Carrera Fragment or the Carrera Montreal would be a good 39mm glassbox partner to the Ice King. But the Heuer Heritage in me made my decision much clearer and would make the collection more coherent. Also from a heritage point of view, the Howinkee Dato trumps both the Fragment and the Montreal IMHO, plus it also has the 160th Anniversary rotor (similar to the Silver/Montreal) that made me pull the trigger 馃憤 Bang!
Yeaaaah buddy!

I just got two new straps for my Dato 45. (Shout out to @Yago for pointing me to GLC straps.)

This first strap is pretty cool. It's a limited edition strap made from the seat upholstery of an actual vintage Porsche 356. It comes in two styles, a racing rally strap and the style I got, shown in my pic below. My strap is #48 out of 80. 馃榾

The second strap is a Corfam replica racing rally strap. This is the strap I was originally intending to buy, but I couldn't resist getting the Porsche 356 strap too. 馃榿

Both of those look great, looking forward to seeing more pictures of these. The Porsche one is intriguing. Which one is your favorite?

That's a very tough question, I was just thinking about it myself!

I gravitate to the Corfam style rally strap, because that's the classic racing chrono image I have of this watch. I'm currently wearing it with this strap. I had the Porsche strap on earlier.

I also really like the Porsche 356 strap too. It gives the watch a different personality; makes a bit more dressy, yet still sporty and vintage. Unlike the OEM croc strap, which feels very modern and very dressy. Plus, wearing real vintage leather from an actual Porsche 356 makes it even cooler in my mind's eye.

I wish these came on quick release spring bars, so I could easily swap back and forth.

I'm a big fan of the Silver too. It's like @Yago said in the "what are you wearing" thread, just need to get them all. LOL. I wish, but I'm no @Hubert. 馃槜

Thank you for sharing, they really set your watch off. Those vintage style designs pair nicely with these 39mm Carreras. I will be checking out GLC straps

The funny thing is that these new Corfam style straps are usually a lot nicer than the original Corfam, as in the case of GLC or Atelier Romane. They're now actually made of leather and beautifully finished. Corfam was a faux leather plastic fibre compound made by DuPont in the '60s and '70s. This is the reason many of these Corfams have survived and are now quite valuable.

Can't wear em though cause Corfam dries, stiffens and cracks over time 馃檮 The new ones are absolute worlds better in quality.

Are we still talking about straps?

Anything made out of Corfam. Corfam shoes are part of the dress uniform for the branches of the US military, mostly because they don't require polishing. But if worn they do require replacement over time, just for different reasons than leather.

By "the new ones" that are better in quality, I do mean the leather Corfam-style straps. (It's funny when you think about it; Corfam was intended to look like leather and now we have leather straps that are made to look like Corfam which was made to look like leather, lol)

By that logic, the leather straps are made to look like leather 馃槈

Well, like Corfam-look leather. Corfam has a certain plasticky sheen to it (because it's, y'know, plastic 馃榿 ) so there's a difference between a leather racing strap and a Corfam-style leather racing strap. Think the TAG official straps for the Glassbox watches
