I measured it, 11% off

It would drive me nuts.... but I am a bit fussy.

Assuming the strap is the same croc strap as you get on the 160th, it's 2mm thick as opposed to the 3mm rally style calfskin straps you normally get with the Carrera. The clasp is also different to match and not as well made as the 3mm version imo. Both Jim's and mine come undone when pressing only one of the buttons. I have switched up to the 3mm rally strap and clasp and it's a massive improvement.
Mine came undone when I put it on a couple times, but if you push down the clasp against the strap it stops. HAVE NO IDEA why this works but it did.

If anyone wants one, the dealer Adam Golden of “Menta Watches” just posted that he has one for sale. He mentioned that he’s looking for $1K over retail. Hopefully I’m not violating any forum rules by putting this here. FWIW, I have no connections (financial or otherwise) to him.

So irritating to see stuff like this.

What I find interesting about this whole Hodinkee Dato affair is that there has been zero coverage of this watch release on any the usual watch websites I frequent. Nothing at:

- Ablogtowatch
- Fratello watches
- Monochrome watches
- Time and Tide watches
- WatchProSite (aka PuristsPro)

Etc.

Maybe: (1) no one cares about the watch; (2) the watch was announced and sold out so fast, no hype or interest could be built; or (3) people have gotten numb to Hodinkee's money-making schemes.

What I definitely don't like is that it's a wonderful watch, and TAG Heuer / Heuer is not getting much publicity for it.

Worn & Wound talked about it in the latest episode of their podcast so at least they noticed it 😜

Is there a specific place where you guys purchase your Heuer 3mm clasps from? Is it something a dealer carries?
Yes. A TAG Heuer authorized dealer or boutique. You can find them online from time to time, but usually more expensive than just going direct.

The part number you need is:
FC5049 (Heuer branded 18mm clasp to accept 3mm thickness strap)

And of course a strap to go with it - either the 19mm (tapering to 18mm) straps you can get from Watchstrapworld, or again from TAG
FC6353 (Black 19mm tapering to 18mm rally strap) or FC6350 (Blue/Black 19mm tapering to 18mm rally strap with blue stitch)

I think this has to do with it not being a TAG Heuer LE or general release but rather a HODINKEE edition. These sites won’t be inclined to strengthen what is basically a competitor. More and more of these review websites are adopting a more business steered approach and act as ADs of watches they review. The ones that don’t and wish to remain independent won’t promote such editions either.

Precisely why their opinions are completely worthless. Why don't they just employ people from the watch companies to write the reviews. In fact when was the last time you saw a review that said anything negative about any watch? The last one I can remember was that QP magazine were a bit sniffy about the 'carbon' Aquaracer, but that's about it. I guess the idea of independent journalism is a bit old fashioned these days, everything must be positive and get those likes flooding in.

Been asking myself why no reviews ever seem to mention the loud unsophisticated behavior of the H02 movement. Remember that Theo & Harris video review of the Ice King? He even said that this watch is silent and does not wobble like many other chronographs do, for instance the 7750...... 🤦

You’ll never see a Hodinkee watch covered at Ablogtowatch…

I am surprised about Monochrome and Fratello, as there are good relationships there. My guess is that Hodinkee knew they could sell the watches in a heartbeat and so didn’t push the press info out broadly. They didn’t reach out to me offering photos…I pushed them to get the photos

Ha, Christian will not slag off a 'Heuer' because he lurvs Heuer, but he would happily slag off a TAG Heuer to get dumb likes from his viewers. In fact he would probably use it as click-bait. But I can't take that guy seriously since he exposed himself as an idiot. Would you buy a watch from a 'watch-dealer' who didn't understand water resistance ratings? I'm supposed to trust him to know a fake Rolex from a real one or to 'certify' a vintage Rolex as wholly genuine..... really? 😵‍💫

The H02 in my Autvia wasn't that load though, it sounded nice actually. I don't know who uploaded that video previously but that was awful.

Those photos were quite awful, looked like renders really. The photos from Hodinkee Japan and Adam's and Ara's wrist shots tell a lot more.

Still not sure I prefer the white chapter ring to the black...I still think white would have been better

Can't really see it either way honestly

I tried to take some photos of it in natural light without over-editing anything. (Wristie is courtesy of my wife). I believe the matte black dial really works well. The hour hand also stays clear of the date window (I’m trying to rationalize the position) as it swings by the 9-o’clock zone. While I’m not going to say it surpasses the skipper in terms of instant appeal, I really, really like it for what it does with a monochromatic palate. The black, stark white, and the slightly silverish subdial look great together.

Congrats @Slomosen ::psy::
I’m counting 6 watches on the forum. Will the Black Prince dethrone the Silver King?
