OMG! I sold off the majority of my TAGs over the last couple of years and told myself if TAG reissued the Dato, this would be the one TAG I would buy again for this is my favourite design. But it's already freaking sold out! 馃檨馃檨馃檨

What a beautiful watch. Unfortunately it sold out to quick for me to get one.

I'm sure there will be plenty cropping up for sale on a website or forum near you soon. At a small mark-up of course!

You think the 'kids' are gonna care about Marilyn?
Kids, who cares about them, Norma Jean will live forever. I once rushed up to get my picture taken with a lookalike in Florida, didn鈥檛 see the 9ft tall minder standing in the doorway behind her, nearly wet masel.

Did they actually resist the fauxtina on this one!

Specifically mentioned in the Hodinkee release article.

You'll find absolutely no fauxtina on the new Carrera Dato's dial.

I've never really been a fan of the Carrera Dato models, however I think the design of this is one of the best reissues-I guess due to the faithfulness (as far as current TH stocks/parts/trends allow) to the original.

I don't understand the Hodinkee role (n.b. spell-check suggestions for 'Hodinkee'=Hoodwink/Hoodwinked/Hoodwinker-no further comment to make....) -did they help in the design (I doubt anyone could argue their input was required-TH had the template anyway-both in the original and Skipper-merge and flip-hey presto!) or were just for marketing reasons? Genuine question.

Needless to say the 'collaboration' helped to sell in 5 minutes. How many collectors/would-be-owners missed out? NO PROBLEM! Go buy one on Ebay right now for $10k.....sadly, I'm not being flippant and it breaks my heart as such.....

Echo your sentiments Steve.

Regarding the Hodinkee input, I reckon they would have been behind the date font and no fauxtina decisions. I'm not convinced TAG would have made the right decisions here.

Agree with an earlier comment that a corfam style strap (or possibly even a BoR bracelet) would have really added to the look.

Both available aftermarket but yes would have been nice to see with the release.

Maybe the choice of the reference is their main role. I don't think the Dato was high in TAG Heuer's priority list and we probably wouldn't have seen one. A few of the details I like and that might not have been so well executed without Hodinkee's oversight: slightly enlarged subdial as per the original, no applied markers at 3 and 9 and choice of white lume iso cream. I also think the black chapter ring is an improvement. Compared to the Dato the Fujiwara dial appears smaller due to the white ring. These details really make the design.

Maybe Hodinkee aren't all bad then...

I think TAG has as much to gain from this as Hodinkee. Hodinkee as a brand and watch publication is so strong that releases like this provide a ton of value for TAG in terms of marketing and strengthening their brand among the enthusiast community.

I agree, the Dato 45 would have not been re-issued without a partnership like this. Several months ago I pitched the idea of doing the 2-register Dato to David (@Calibre11) a C11's next collaboration project, but that didn't go anywhere.

I still think it would have been glorious, but most likely TAG Heuer would have rejected it, as the Hodinkee project was probably already underway.

That comparison shows up the date wheel placement, just that little gap the other side looks so much better to me...

Ugh! Now that you pointed it out, I can't unsee it! 馃榿
I wish they put the same space between the date window and 9-o'clock lume plot as the subdial and 3-o'clock lume plot. Maybe they were going for a position of the date window to be where an hour marker would be, but I don't know how I feel about it...

Probably not a choice, the date disk is where it is in the H02 architecture and moving it would be too much modification of the movement, is my guess.

Would buy this in a heartbeat. I love that date window.

According to IG comments it should be available on US TAG Heuer site. Someone just bought one there apparently.

Yup I noticed that too. ... Especially, as someone pointed out, since the sub dial white does not match the other white elements.
That was me.

I pointed that out when it was released, but it sold-out there too.

I don't think so, you can add it to your cart.
