As a Brazilian who grew up watching him I'm hardly impartial, but he was def. the best driver of my gen.
Senna got caught in a transitional period lacking proper regulation; Schumacher's benetton had launch control and a fuel rig while Senna tried to play by the rules and..

The sport just isn't the same as it was back then. It's too highly regulated and having the best car is a huge factor. What impressed me most about Senna was his ability to win in the Lotus and also his final season with the McLaren. Its Ford engine was way underpowered vs. the almighty Williams-Renault, yet Senna won 5 times and finished 2nd in the '93 F1 Championship.
When I watch Senna drive from the cockpit views, I get why he's nicknamed "Magic Senna". Today's top drivers might be just as talented, but it's much harder to discern. Whatever raw driving skill they might have seems a lot more masked by the regulations and machinery.
