Whats up bromigos!

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a stainless steel folding clasp that uses the same locking mechanism as my titanium clasp? The titanium one I have is ref FC5066 and it has this superb locking mechanism that feels secure and never risks popping open during wear. It has these two "knobs" that gets pushed towrds the inside to release the clasp:

The FC5042 on the other hand that I got with the cbk221b is really bad in comparison. It feels cheap and flimsy and can be popped open with force. One side of the clasp has popped open by accident a couple of times already, making it a less secure one trigger release clasp when this happens.

I would love to upgrade to a proper polished stainless steel one with same construction as the FC5066 if TAG ever made it?

If you're going for this let me know I may be interested in selling it together with the brand new FC6191 it's on if you make me an offer I can refuse (EU based).😎

The clasp takes a 18 mm strap right?

What are the measurements of that strap though? The cbk221b has a 19mm lug width

I mentioned the strap because I thought you might be looking for that too, I'm willing to sell separately.

FC5014-0 is the new style and FC5014 is with the split center with springs.

I find the fc5066 rattles if you tap it, the Fc5042 does not.

Having worn the fc5042 near daily for over 2 years, generally not being kind to the watch, I have never managed to pop it open (unlike the bracelet buckle on my 2007 stainless AR)

Interesting, I wonder if there is something wrong with my 5042 then. You mean you cant use force to pop yours open, only way is to use trigger buttons?

About the 5066 yes it does rattle when not on wrist but when wearing it I think it feels amazing and comforting like I could never drop the watch.

Watch the strap thickness too. Some clasps are designed for 3mm thick straps and others for 2mm thick straps.

It's a bit of a minefield when you throw in strap width, clasp material and branding.

Yes good point, I am prepared to have to get new straps as well 👍

I have just tried levering under the point of the clasp with my finger (fairly hard) and pulling on the strap, neither caused it to pop open. I just checked, it's a FC5040 not a 5042 - it's on my 2018 AR with the fabric strap. It has had a LOT of hard wear, it's been on job sites, in engine bays, mountain biking and never come undone.

Where are you pulling yours to make it come undone?

I did an experiment with my clasps earlier. FC5049 was solid as a rock and didn't come undone easily, even with one button pressed. However, FC5042 I was able to prise oen with just one button pressed in. Obviously something wrong with the design of FC5042. It does feel more lightweight and not as robust as the FC5049 clasp.

Which locking mechanism does your 5040 have? Left or right on my photo?
