Reading everyone's comments, I see mixed enthusiasm for what's happening with the fragment Carrera. I'm geeked about it personally, so if it pleases the court, I would just like to add:
- TH got the Heuer 02 to fit inside a 39mm case. Awesome news for vintage fans.
- Outside of the fragment wording and logo, the dial is pretty faithful to the 60s Carrera. Personally, I like the fragment logo. To me, the simplicity of bolts look natural with this co-brand. If it heats up the heritage line and makes a 60s inspired Carrera a future member of that group, then good on ya Tag Heuer.
- Yes, there are no markers. Don't know if that's a design choice or something that was necessary to squeeze the Heuer 02 inside a 39mm case. I'm a designer by trade, and the ref. 2447 NT was always a little busy for my tastes. I'm A OK with a lack of markers on this LE, because it feels like it's in the spirit of Jack Heuer's design efforts to create a cleaner dial in the 1960s. In fact, I think it looks better with simple lume plots since the tachometer makes it so busy. That said, if this LE was inspired by the 2447N instead and lacked the tachometer scale, I'd love simple baton markers on that dial design because it's minimal. The cleaner, the better for me. As a fan, I'm not wedded to any particular design element. But more the sum of all the parts. I think this is great looking watch.
I guess I'm just excited that the 60s are back. I had to sell my black/rose gold 1887 Carrera because it was like a hockey puck on my wrist and I never wore it. I hope this is another big step towards some really cool vintage inspired stuff in 2019. Pulling the Carrera closer to its original design roots was a nice surprise for me this week. I'm happy they made this.
