So the SEL strap is £83, not including the buckle. Assuming that includes the end links....???

It doesn't. Still, this bracelet looks mighty good since they cleaned it during the service...

...

This one's more Ron Dennis than Ayrton Senna.........They're fun to own for me - just so reminiscent of the McLaren/Senna/Prost era.

OK, so Berger had replaced Prost and Ron's S/el is a chronometer, but I can still dream ( Suzuka 1991, BTW ).......

Still keeping on, 'reflecting on the S/el'......

My latest (!) one just arrived, a 'straight' WG1112 quartz, with metal bracelet and white dial. This one's more Ron Dennis than Ayrton Senna.
Condition is very nice, and once again it came with original booklets and box/case. All three of mine have come via trusted e-bay dealers, and for what you get, the prices are very reasonable.

They're fun to own for me - just so reminiscent of the McLaren/Senna/Prost era.

Nice collection Martin, and I agree they are FUN watches!

You remembered me something: in this picture I’m having some fun wit my daughter having in my (right) wrist my quartz S/EL, touching some sea creatures in Ubatuba aquarium, Brazil.

The Ron Dennis S/el was one of my favorites. It got a lot of wrist time back in the day.

I must admit that I've never thought that the S/el was an candidate for a re-edition...too 1980s for today's watch buyers. But then I remembered the new Pasha from Cartier...this is just as "80s" at the S/el, so if it sells well, maybe we will. The Pasha was launched two years before the S/el and to me they look similar

Ummm, similar? Really? I'm not seeing it.

Soft, round cases is what I was looking at. Obviously, one is a Chrono and one isn't

I think the Pasha works a lot better in today's world and cant really see how the world would be ready for a S/El re-edition

Of all the TAG Heuers ( as opposed to classic Heuers ) the S/el seems to polarise opinions the most. Which again, to me, somehow just adds to their desirability.

it's very much a question of personal opinion and taste. I have no idea - but rather doubt - the business economics of a re-issue. But to me, I'm just glad that I can find very good original examples at reasonable cost.

It's a bit like those 're-creation' Cobras and GT40s. Great cars. But if I were ( and I most certainly am NOT ) in that financial league - well, it'd have to be an original........😉

Just happen to be wearing my CG1120 today...

Not sure how I'd feel about a re-edition. If they did, would it be quartz? Would it be bigger? Would it be £3000?

You can bet your ass it will be a calibre 5 in plastic movement holder, comes with a "crown will break just after your warranty expires" guarantee 😁

And is there really one 'S/EL' they could re-issue? The obvious choice is the Senna one, but only because Senna wore it... does the world want a two tone SEL on a brown leather strap with an ani-digi display?

Im guessing no, to be honest. Maybe in the future it will but not right now

Unfortunately I don't think the fact that Senna wore it makes it enough of an icon, and I don't think that's going to change in the future. Plus, we pretty much know that they wouldn't just bring out a 1:1 re-edition so they're going to have to invest in a new case and bracelet... it's not as if the people are clamouring for an S/EL is it? It's not even like used prices are going through the roof, but that could change. Maybe I should buy as many as possible up now while they are still cheapish!

The Link is the modern S/el although it is only the bracelet that bares a passing resemblance to the original.

It's kind of evolved beyond recognition now..

Reissues are for enthusiasts. Plenty of WIS enthusiasm for Heuer. Not so much for Tag Heuer! This came from the 80s, when TAG was busy overhauling the collection and marketing quartz fashion watches.

A reissue also needs a good story and some nostalgia behind it I guess. Like how Jack Heuer came up with the Carrera. Or how Steve McQueen wore the Monaco. Or how Siffert sold Autavias in the pitlane. Senna provides a character but not really a story about the watch. Is it enough? There's also the problem that many watches have already been released with "Senna" on the dial and elements of the design (like the Link bracelet).

Finally, a reissue needs to have a timeless design that still works and is appreciated today. The S/EL isn't the most beautiful and simple of pieces to be fair, which I wouldn't call a "classic". Of course 1980s has it's own charm, but maybe it just wasn't as good as 1960s design?!

EDIT: I forgot the name doesn't help much either. Carrera, Autavia, Monaco, Monza. And S/EL. Does anyone (apart from us) even know that it stands for sports elegance? Sounds like a clothing line that Alan Partridge would model.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about
