Newbie here - Monaco Calibre 12 vs. Monza Calibre 17

Hey All,

Newbie here, I'm looking at getting my first Tag (or is it Heuer) and could use some advice. I think I have it narrowed down to a blue Monaco Calibre 12 or the new Monza Calibre 17. Any opinions between these two? I've tried on the Monaco and really liked it, but haven't tried the Monza, I'm not really sure where to go to try it on since it's a semi-limited release. Any recommendations?

Many thanks.

Have you thought about the Monaco Calibre 11? It was the original concept the the 12 took after.

I'd look at the Monaco above but I'm biased, I don't know where you based but there is a Monza available in Mitchells jewellers in Perth Scotland.

Of the two watches you've suggested, I would go for the Monza. But, if you add the Calibre 11 Monaco into the mix as @mikekilo725 suggests it's a harder choice

Thanks everyone. I hadn't looked that closely at the Calibre 11 Monaco, I'll find one I can try on.

Im curious, do you guys prefer the Calibre 11 because it's more like the original or other reasons?

Many thanks once again

Nicer dial and shade of blue imo.

Definitely swap out the Cal.12 Monaco with the Cal.11 - then try them both on.

I had a Calibre 12 Monaco a few years ago and was very disappointed with the timekeeping for a brand-new watch, but it might have just been mine.

Thanks everyone, I didn't realize 1) that the 11 and 12 were different colors and that 2) it was so much more preferable.

Agreed the Calibre 11 has a deeper shade of blue on the dial. I also like the more unique stem placement, something different than others out there. Plus the pedigree doesn't hurt either

I saw a buddy wearing a C12 Monaco at the weekend, very eye catching, looks like nothing else that you see people wearing and the blue face looked amazing in the sunshine. Never thought I'd put in a vote for a Monaco, but that's what I'd buy.

The Monaco is in my opinion the best (TAG) Heuer ever (not including the haute horlogerie pieces) , and the actual calibre 11 is the best looking Monaco ever.
I like the Monza dial and shape very much, but PVD is not my favourite.

It's great to see such an active community on this.

As I look at the Calibre 11 more, I like the movement and the strap, but I think I like (and I realize this might be sacrilegious) the cleaner dial of the 12. That said, I haven't had a chance to see the 11 in person yet.

@albertoct - I believe the new Monza is titanium and doesn't have a PVD finish if that changes your opinion at all

And this is the crux of any decision, wear what you like 😀

Well it's important to keep in mind that we can't tell you which one you'll like more - that's for you to decide!

I did prefer the "cleaner" dial of the black-face Cal.12 when I bought mine, but the fact that it didn't resemble the original Monaco (with the radial markers and the right-hand crown) eventually ate at me.

Also, and this shouldn't necessarily influence your decision but could be important - my Monaco depreciated 66% when it came time to move on. I don't know how well the Cal. 11 will hold its value, but either way I would search for a pre-owned one from a trustworthy source instead of buying new.

I wanted to thank everyone once again for their thoughts. I decided to go with the blue Monaco Calibre 12. In the end my preference just skewed more toward the slightly more modern version vs the 11.

Trying it out for the first day and loving it.
