Love the texture and subtle layers in the dial. Also love the strap - can’t say I’ve found the quality low as per Hubert’s comments on the 80s.

I think it’s awesome, definitely happy with it. My only negative, and I’m sure it’s the same for all of them, but the box is sub-par and put bluntly rubbish. I’m not a box fanatic, but they could have spent a fiver on it and doubled its quality.

Yes, I messaged my AD weeks ago about it - the book was in long before the 50s.
I think my closest TH Boutique is getting me the book (fingers crossed). I like the style of the box a lot, as it pays homage to the Heuer boxes of 50 years ago. But I can see why some may feel its cheaply constructed.

My F1 Gulf came in the same box, as did the Monaco Gulf "First Win 50th" LE. But the Gulf boxes are covered in a pseudo leather like covering with orange stitching. So those boxes feel a little more substantial compared to the Monaco 50 box.

Can we get some photos of the boxes please
Here you go. The box has a thick, papery, textured finished covering. I guess this gives it a more cardboard like feeling compared to the Gulf's box and its certainly cheaper when compared to the nice wooden box of the 40th anniversary Monaco.

For comparison, here's some pics of my F1 Gulf's box.

Which is basically the same box used for the Monaco 50's, but with different covering.

Could be like you said that they wanted to recreate the feeling of the original boxes 👎 seems odd otherwise that an F1 comes with a more premium box...

I got a similar box with my WAY208C Aquaracer and I thought it was a step up from the old brown ones...

Similar to the Monaco 50th or the F1 Gulf?

This talk of boxes made me look at what my other watches came in, so here’s the MB though still not wood or anything special it’s quite substantial
As is the manual

Yeah, the underlying box of your Aquaracer looks to be the same as my Monaco 50 & Gulf F1.

I like how the Monaco 50's box design mimics the old '70s Heuer boxes and I wouldn't say the F1 Gulf's box is really more premium, it's the same underlying box. I think the papery finish used on the Monaco 50's box is why some feel it's cheap, but it's basically the same box. OTOH, compared to the 40th's wooden box it is cheap.

I think TAG is using this smaller rectangular box (as opposed to the square one) for many of their new watches now. The differences are the materials & design used to wrap the box on the outside, material used on the inside, colors and logos etc.

On a side note, I just pulled my Monaco Gulf Grey's box (circa 2010) to have a re-look at the box. It has a nice soft touch vinyl-like finish on the box. However, it has a small section that looks a little worn. Odd, as that box has been in storage for close to 8-9 years and never touched until now! I suppose it's due to age, heat & humidity. Some of my older TAG boxes (actually these were round containers) from the '90s with soft touch finishes have deteriorated even worse, as the finish is peeling off.

So on the plus side, my hunch (hope) is that the Monaco 50's box might stand the test of time better when compared to the leatherette or soft touch type of finishes used on some of TAG's other boxes. Still, a wooden box like the 50th's 1 of 50 box set or the 40th anniversary's box would have been more fitting for these individual Monaco 50's.

This is fairly common with lots of those vinyl watch boxes, which is why nowadays you see more wood veneers or other finishes

I just coated some of my older vinyl/soft touch covered boxes with 303 Aerospace protectant in the hopes that it will help preserve the boxes better. Probably should've done it when the boxes were new. On my really old ones, they've deteriorated to the point where applying the protectant only makes the finish flake off worse. 🙁

Noticed this Bamford piece, which could be the mirror universes's evil twin of the 90's watch. 😉

Wow, Bamford might actually have designed something palatable.

I would say they get it right 15% of the time, wrong 60% and really wrong 25%... there's no forgiving this.

Yep. My issue is, they took all the hour markers off and so the logo and the date wheel look completely ridiculous. Better to do away with the day date altogether and maybe have a slightly larger white logo instead, don't you think?
