I'm also similar to you that I've recently been spending on Omega,Tudor and Breitling.
I think it was @Aquagraph who suggested that we all take our enthusiasm and move to a Tudor Black Bay forum instead. Who else is onboard?

Ouch issues with all 4 Monacos? I know it's annoying have the modular chrono for the price. I was looking at the 3861 Speedmaster but hearing that has many issues also according to the OF.
No problem with my 3861 running well since Aug '19.

Why is it that all watch "journalists" in the world have agreed that Sellitas are "tried and tested work horse movements" when they seem to be the exact opposite of this 馃が

Because there are issues only with Sellita from Tag Heuer (really).

Were there the same issues with your Monacos? Are they common, many others had the same issue?

My Carrera must have had the ETA iso the Sellita. Never had issues with it.

Yes, maybe in the metal it won't be as bad as the pictures. I quick photo-edit illustrates how much cleaner the silver would look without the seconds contrasting subdial. Alternately, I would not be complaining, if they had used the "cross hairs" design as they do on the H02 Monacos.
Needs the date window back to fill the space?

Yes, same issue on all my Monaco (and Dad's Calibre 11 Monaco Gulf...). The watch stops even when it is being worn. The manual winding is OK but when worn it doesn't wind up enough. People I know at Tag Heuer tell me that they all have the same problem (immediately or after a while)

thanks for the reply. Ouch that sucks. Any other owners on here have that problem?

Because they are just fine movements, even in base form - as long as you either wear it every day or invest in a watch winder.
Most other companies at this price point though, invest in properly finishing the Sellita to avoid these problems. TAG does not, similar to the way a microbrand does not, though the microbrand is trying to achieve a very low price target while TAG charges more than its competition in many cases.

Interesting about the CAW211 though, everything I've heard about the modular ETA/DD movement has been positive in terms of reliability. (Timekeeping not so much though)

There are a couple isolated incidents with the 3861, but not nearly the same as what we're talking about here.

Also, I personally owned one of the very first 3861 movements (I had an early production Apollo XI 50th two-tone) and it performed marvelously. If I had the budget to add a new 3861 sapphire sandwich to my rotation (alongside my 105.012, which is essentially the same) I would in a second. And I still might someday 馃槈

So what about the Calibre 16? I've always thought that was the answer to reliable Aquaracer ownership, or am I just being horrifically naive? I have a Caalibre 16 but I barely use it so I certainly wouldn't notice any issues..

Calibre 16 = Sellita so same shit... (since end of 2015).

Before 2015, no problem with ETA.

Thanks I need to decide Monaco or Speedmaster as the next one, both at RRP are more than I want to spend. Even the Speedy compared to the earlier models (non co axial) have massively increased now with an expected 7-10% increase are mega money.

The SW510 (Sellita version of the 7750) isn't known to have the same rotor winding problems, and again I've had good experiences with it in other watches. But as always I'd take some caution with TAG. In general I'd say "innocent until proven guilty" and wouldn't be too concerned buying one - besides the inflated price TAG charges for a 7750-base chrono, which is par for the course

Thanks, I was particularly thinking about the luscious looking Cal16 CAY Aquaracer... and since the Cal16 Aquaracer seems to be no more it will probably be the way to go.

Again, probably fine, especially at the prices they seem to go for these days. I've seen AR chronos in the US $2k range.

Wonder if there'll be a new AR chrono in the coming years... when did they leave the lineup?

They have this in Bicester, about 拢2300 I think... good question, I'm not sure as I haven't done the history of the Aquaracer yet so haven't studied it. Maybe 2-3 years ago.
