MODEST, You Sir are the master of understatement, I applaud your taste and am more than a little green with envy, but, happy with my mixed collection some being special as they were gifts. Welcome to the forum and enjoy.

Thanks so much for sharing the side by side pics, stunning pair! ::love::

Seeing the two together, I feel TAG Heuer did a pretty good job with the new tribute. The new one has the overall vibe of the original, while being different at the same time. But as I'm more of a traditionalist, I still wish the new one had been a bit more faithful to the original. Of course there's nothing like having an original, so you are one lucky guy!

If you're interested, there's a CAW211M up for auction on ebay. No bids yet at 2000 £. I remember this was pegged to be the "Dark Lord Revival" when it was released. If you're going for a black Monaco, it doesn't get blacker than this. I would have bid on this myself but I just got another black dial Monaco last month.

I have now put them both on rally straps, just as they should be. Here are some more comparison shots with 'correct' straps ...

If I could build a combination of these two I’d use the new case n pushers-safer in my clumsy life- with old style dial without markers and bottom sub dial.

If and when the tribute sells, I am going to undertake a mini-project doing just that. Currently thinking cs2110 because has 'heuer' dial that has more vintage and minimal feel. Get case coated (not the pushers) and then swap subhands for red/orange ones.

That sounds like it would be a pretty cool watch!

Welcome to the forum indeed and thanks for sharing the story! There's something here for both vintage and modern TAG/Heuer lovers too. It looks like your persistence has paid off, and I also appreciate the frankness of your journey description.

    This disheartens me a little-

So it went from dismissed to reserved to not reserved to for sale/sold. :cautious: I sometimes consider myself fortunate enough not to have to deal with ADs and such and this underpins some of the stories I've heard of the sometimes elitist, smug characters you get in these outfits. You'd think they'd just want to sell a bl00dy watch, wouldn't you? Well done you for turning the tables on the situation. Shame it took dropping a particular Monaco into the mix to even get a foot in the door.

Ending on a positive though-congratulations on your well-earned grouping! :)

    That’s a collection. My 1133B needs a PDV friend.

    Hi,
    Great post!
Im hoping that you, or someone else on this thread can help me...
Until a short while ago i owned the 40th anniversary model the same as yours, I have since sold it to someone in Switzerland.
Upon arrival in Zurich it was promptly seized by customs as the box contained an alligator strap, I have been asked to provide the scientific name for the species used for the strap, does anyone know where I can find this information?
I am told they will destroy the watch if i dont supply a CITES certificate.

    Many thanks,
    Jason

I believe the “croc” straps are embossed. It’s cow hide that stamped to look croc.
    So, fake croc.

The 40th Anniversary Monaco is different though; I recall that TAG Heuer specifically called it an "alligator" strap rather than "croc", it also came with a second "cow" hide calf strap.

    What an amazing collection !

Can I ask for honest opinion which one you like better between Dark Lord or modern Tag Heuer Monaco black version ?

Thanks so much...I did end up getting confirmation from TAG Heuer customer care, the species they use is "Alligator Mississippiensis" which are not currently endangered.

    Hi all

A quick update on the collection - basically the 2022 official homage (CBL2180) has gone and been replaced with my personal homage (a modified CS2110) that some of you may have seen arrived recently.

    20221013_151406.jpg

    So now it consists of:
    1. Transitional 1133b
    2. 40th Anniversary CAW211A
    3. 74033N - The one that shall not be named
    4. Modified CS2110 - 74033N homage

As I think I mentioned, I am now on the hunt for a crispy 1133b (Std production), which will sit in the middle of the top row to represent chronological order. I am also thinking of completing the setup with a 1133g, which would sit in the bottom left (again to represent chronological order on the darker, non-blue variants). The 1133g may wait, however, since I am also eyeing up another grail of mine, Daytona 6263 Big Red.

    Watch this space...

In the meantime, I will make some time to take some half decent shots of my modified CS2110 with the 74033N

Nice dude! And no better way to illustrate the original Heuer vs TAG Heuer proportions
