Thanks for sharing and really great to see this. I just realized that driving position is at the right side of the car and stick shift placed at the right side of the driver near the door 😀 Never knew of this positioning and configuration before. Would be nice to know the background behind this. I’ve been thinking about it if I’m driving a manual transmission of a RHD car, my left hand shifting the gears wouldn’t be as fast as what I do 😗
The majority of the race cars of that era are RHD with the gear shift on the right. It has nothing to do with the LHD or RHD setup of road cars. The reason is most European race courses of that era ran clockwise (including Le Mans) with more right hand turns, the RHD seating position gave the race cars an advantage. The gearshift position was also on the right because most race drivers were used to that, since the layout was used in F1 and most other types of racing.

Ferrari 330 P4
Porsche 917K
