In a connected side note, will the 2021 Aston Martin F1 still be pink? I believe the pink comes from the main sponsor BWT.

Back on topic...
Some fan made examples of how the Gulf McLaren livery should really look.

But I'm still happy to see this partnership, even if the livery isn't my cup of tea.

Is the Gulf livery colors the reason why McLaren sports a mostly orange outfit?

Nope McLaren orange, known as Papaya Orange, has been their colour since the early Bruce McLaren days.

Thanks @Mr_Orange 😀 Great to know 👍

Gulf livery will therefore be great to compliment McLaren’s natural color 😉

Yes, of course pink comes from BWT, like in the racing Porsche or the DTM Mercedes sponsored by BWT

I don't really quite understand why a water treatment company would spend so much money on sponsoring motorsport...

I'm just not sure a pink Aston Martin would be all that..... cool?

Because the owner is probably a petrolhead? 😁

Aha, I thought they were a bottled water company competing against Red Bull, every day is a school day.

That would make more sense... but then a lot of sponsors don't make much sense - who are they supposed to be aiming at?

A bit like Ineos, own the local oil refinery, not a product you need to push, maybe he just likes F1 and cycling. Although I be happy if he was interested in rugby and the name on the local team’s shirt, or naming rights for our new stadium.

Right. @Mr_Orange knows his orange! LOL 😁

The new Gulf McLaren livery was actually inspired by the original Gulf McLaren Group7 cars, which is kinda cool. But that livery is not for me, only the duck egg blue and gulf orange scheme of the Ford GT40 and Porsche 917 will do! 😉

I thought the pink came from Pepto Bismol!

Nice history, but it's a shame that McLaren seem unlikely to be back fighting at the top anytime soon...

Just curious, what happened to Gulf Oil? I know they still have petrol/gas stations in some areas presently but probably just for brand / name use. They use to be a dominant player before but lost its way. Unlike Shell, Chevron or Total who continues to have a long history, especially Shell with Ferrari.

The original Gulf Oil ceased to exist around 1979/80 due to poor business practices and other issues which caused its downfall. It was then acquired by Chevron & BP and others. Gulf Oil International became mainly a marketing/licensing company for the brand and continues on.
