Just saw an ad for a Cal 36 Monza with blacked out numerals. The ad calls it a CR5110. Is this for real? Never seen this.
Probably not real. The CR5110 should look like this.

I can't find an all blacked out Cal 36 Monza, but if one exists it would have a different ref. number. There is an all silver version, ref. CR5111.

Apparently the numerals seem blacked out due to the angle at which the photo was taken. I got this from the dealer. The dealer selling the watch on C24 seems to be a seasoned seller, so it would be unlikely that they would not be aware avlbout a fake Monza. I still can't get over how its the camera angle!!!

The hands also look black so it could be. Should be easy enough to take a photo where the light is on them though...

True. I did think it was a custom job done on the watch. Not interested in buying anyway, so doesn't really bother me. Just the curiosity though.

I’m in the Tampa Bay Area, you?
Little too far to drive, but if you wanted to send it in, you can. Turn around time will be super quick, but no free shipping like you would with tag heuer lol.

Hey guys! Here’s a marketplace listing. I’m not interested in purchasing it, but I wanted to see if I was correct in spotting a fake. I noticed the 12 marker/logo on the bezel looks too small, and the font looks sloppy. Obviously the strap is aftermarket. The red text on the dial also looks faded. Bad photos though… even the back looks off

lol is that what the dealer said? Because that's complete nonsense. There are multiple angles. Also, look at the lume at 8 and 4. And even 2 and 10, but less so. This dial was clearly removed from the watch at some point, and something was done to it.

I completely agree, I just didn't want to engage further with no intention of buying. Good luck to whoever buys it though

Another frankenstein TAG on C24, this time a gold case Monaco with a brown dial. Basically a cross between the CW5140 (White dial Gold) and CW2114 (Monaco Python). Honestly speaking, I actually like this gold and brown combo!!!

Another modded Monza Cal 36 available for sale on C24, this time with a red central second hand. Have to admit, that red does bring out the dial

Who knows what's up with the TAG website to check warranty numbers? On the right is a black line that obscures half the screen

Thats the problem when you check on the phone - the site is not designed for mobile viewing. Check on a computer and you'll be fine.

I often see some nice watches advertised “without box or papers” , is it possible to check out the authenticity of a TAG by contacting TAG ? Will they issue a certificate / letter of authenticity?

Thanks.

You can send the watch into them and they will validate. Not sure about issuing papers but if you have it serviced then you'll get warranty paperwork back.

What’s the general consensus on buying a TH (or any premium watch) without a box or papers? How much does it affect the value?

At a rough guess, I'd say it can wipe as much as 20% off the price. Personally, I wouldn't buy a used Tag Heuer without box or papers. Well, depending on the model. Maybe a near-vintage reissue Carrera would be OK. But the newer models like F1s and Aquaracers are hard enough to authenticate as genuine. Paperwork helps.

lol i like to see it, as you send in a watch to tag, and you want them to not say anything. Otherwise, they will send you a later saying they can't work on your watch cause it's fake.

So this guy is kinda pissing me off. I got excited about finding a new source of hard to find parts. Especially crowns, due to the threads going bad. I can repair most other parts, but that.

Based on everything, you'd think he was selling tag heuer parts. But no. He's not. They are all "aftermarket". Who is making all these parts for such old watches? Seems like crowns and etc for every old model. There is really a market out there for a company to create entire tooling for so many different parts?

You know you are getting after market parts. He doesn't hide that fact. It's always " FOR Tag Heuer". That's how you know.

Then again, these are all technically counterfeit, because they have logo's, which is illegal.

And he also seems to have real ones. I think

There are going to be so many older used tag heuers for sale, with parts that aren't real, and none of us will ever know. Kinda sucks huh.

I’m not sure if an aftermarket crown bothers me if it’s disclosed. I service my own watches too, and I’d like to use original parts, but I’d use an aftermarket crown in a heartbeat if needed. I was looking at aftermarket crowns for my 2000s, I just wish they didn’t put the logo on. I also have a branded aftermarket rubber strap that would drive you crazy haha. It feels and looks like a cheap Amazon strap but looks like an F1 strap.
